Prompt:Your horse/rider somehow realize that they're being followed.

Come the morning, Stary stomped out their fire, saddled up Orich, and headed back for the berry patch before continuing in one direction-- the one she surmised was not the way they came.

"If we keep going in a straight line, we'll find a way out somehow." She told herself, and him. Orich snorted and continued along the wooded paths. Stary continued her calming mantra of singing whatever came to mind, hoping that not only would her voice break the silence, but would serve as a signal to other riders and horses also lost in the forest that someone else was there, and they were friendly. (That was, if Orich's glow didn't give them away first.) The forest was impossibly dark, she couldn't tell if it was day or night, but the cool teal glow that her mount cast made it easier to see. Sometimes the path was obscured, other times it was wide enough to walk three horses side-by-side along.

It was in one of these wide spots that Orich absolutely panicked. With an indignant roar, the stallion reared up and Stary clung desperately to the reins and his mane to keep from falling off.

"Woah, easy boy! It's okay!" Orich did not spook easily, but the source of his alarm was fluttering beneath his hooves. He appeared to notice what it was and stood off to the side of it, huffing and shaking.

"Easy..." Stary crooned, hopping out of the saddle and grabbing his reins and leading him towards the yellowed sheet of paper he'd kicked up. Confused, she carefully bent and picked the piece of paper up, looking it over.

"What the everloving-" But before she had the chance to finish her sentence, Orich spooked again, dancing to the side and rearing back onto his hind legs slightly. His eyes were wide, and his ears were pinned back.

"Easy! Hey, come on!" If he was shying back this badly, something was deeply wrong and she didn't want to be there. Skillfully, she hopped into his saddle and yanked control of his reins, pocketing the piece of paper and letting him run as swiftly as he could away from the small clearing, only pulling him up to a trot when the path narrowed again.

She did not see the tall, slim figure among the trees that did indeed watch her without eyes...
