A fan art of Sora Aoi from Kingdom Hearts. I really wanted to focus on the face of the Keyblade Wielder. So I lied Sora down on the bed and drew him while sitting on top of him. I hope you like this *prince-buggyLets have a little Kingdom Hearts story time. Not many people know this but I was a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, not many people know because during my KH fandom days I was still in High School and in my group of friends they weren't into these Disney Final Fantasy games, they were more into GTA and hardcore bang bang boom boom games, so I was a little bit shy to bring it up. Kingdom Hearts was the second game I ever got for the PS2, first game being Metal Gear Solid 2, they were both in Japanese because I didn't know about the region locks so I got the console in Hong Kong and it ended up being a Japanese PS2, so all I could play was Jap games... Anyway I played it and loved it, I then had to go online to find out the story of what I just played, I read every word and I was just as confused as playing the game in Japanese. The story was crazy as hell, it had something to do with dream and sealing darkness and something to do with a key and worlds and heart and somehow Disney characters got dragged into all this. Lol but it was hell of a game, I loved meeting the Disney characters so much. I then bought Kingdom Hearts II (Also in japanese...) and finished it within a week, a friend was also interested in it so I lend it to him, he then left the game in his car and coincidentally that day his Lancer Evolution VI got stolen in the shopping center.. along with my game! The poor guy was sad as hell man, but he still paid me back full price for the game. After the first two games I think Kingdom hearts came out for the Gameboy Advance with a spinoff called the Chains of Memories where its like a card game? I didn't get it because I was waiting for Kingdom Hearts III, then another spinoff game came out for the mobile phones, then another for the PSP, And DS, And 3DS, And I was like 'Dude stop making all these bloody spinoff games and come out with Kingdom Hearts III already!' But it never happened... I just felt a bit betrayed and annoyed at all the spinoffs. I know if Kingdom Hearts III does come out I would not understand it at all because they have a mountain of spinoff games that contributes to the story I think, I'll be like 'WHO THE HELL ARE ALL THESE CHARACTERS?'.. But anyway thats my Kingdom Hearts story I hope you had fun reading it.
Anyway about this artwork, thanks *Deer-Head for helping out with the name, I had to ask someone who is familiar with the game to come up with a good english title for this artwork, and she's white, so I made it her duty to help the Asian boy out. With great power comes great responsibility, but I like this title 'Day Dreamer'. KH has a lot of themes about dream and sleep and giving birth when someone is asleep and all those stuff right? So I think its an appropriate name for this pic. Hey its better than its original title 'Lying in Bed'.

My KH story is the same! Could never play any of the spin offs and I always see amazing fan art of spin off games that look so interesting and I always wonder if I am missing some fantastic story. Alas the wait for KH3 continues, I just want to wield a keyblade again and dive into the story one last time. Thanks for the great art, you made me remember all the wonderful memories I have playing KH1 and 2.

I actually enjoyed the spin off games because it explained a bit more of the keyblade and kingdom hearts, but I will be very patient for KH3 because that will be the final ending of the KH franchise which I will miss dearly

Ry, I feel exactly the same way about the spin-off's, I've been waiting for years and years for Kingdom Hearts III and like you I was completely in love with the first two games. I was like "Alright, sure, a spin-off game can't be TOO bad, they'll get to Kingdom Hearts III soon, they're probably just milking it a little more which is understandable for most game companies."
So, still excited, I bought the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 but was SO disappointed. Roxas, being one of my most favorite characters of all was finally in a game where he was a main protagonist, so I was really happy to be getting a game like it. But, then... Xion. XION. WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY NEED TO CREATE HER? If there's a proper reason, why not make a better thought-out character, she was just awful, as if a fan had made a Mary-Sue and they just threw her right on in there. She really ruined that game for me, that it was all based around her. Another girl character that was better would have been perfectly fine with me, but they stuck her in it. And in the end it felt like nothing was really accomplished either with the way she just vanished and she was just forgotten, I knew she was supposed to play SOME part in it, but it felt like it was needed and that part of the entire story was not needed to our knowledge.
Then, Birth By Sleep, I couldn't get it because it was on PSP which really annoyed me for starters, but oh well, that happens. So I had to read up on the entire thing and it seemed alright, apart from the fact that we didn't really need to know about that either. They stretched out stories that could have easily been placed into the bigger games, heck, they could have made it so it's Kingdom Hearts IV and I would be fine, because it's not an entire game of pointless spin-off's. In the actual game you could say, "Yeah I didn't like that part so much."
But I don't know, maybe my views are wrong; I feel myself that my views are fine because the Kingdom Hearts fan base has lost a lot of popularity due to those games ( Almost all of my friends ditched it after kingdom heart 358/2, too. ) But it has also gained some.
I just want Kingdom Hearts III to come out with all the answers I wanted for the first two games the way they should be answered and I can be happy playing the game- but yeah, I'm exactly how you are with the worry that if I get that game, whenever it's released, that I won't know a lot of the characters or story behind it.
On the other hand of all of this, the picture is amazing and your art never fails to amaze me, no matter the subject <3 I've followed you on Facebook for a while now and I love seeing your art in the feed every now and then, keep it up, Ry. ; u ;

I've played MANY different types of games and KH is the only one I can't sum up in 5 minutes, because even I get confused again and need to awkwardly explain the story linking it to way too many plot-lines and worlds
I love every single detail about Kingdom Hearts... but I'm shy about it too for a long time... and the fact that it's so confusing doesn't help me much in pointing out to my friends why these games are awesome
also, KH made me call Mickey Mouse "KING Mickey" and I can't refer to him other way than that! haha

Chain of Memories, Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are all really essential to the plot. If you don't want to play them then at least watch them.

Oh, and also the fact that you did Sora... im speechless... that is my all time favorite game series and you depicted him flawlessly!

Just wanted to say, while they are on portables (SADLY) Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts Dream Dream Distance aren't side games. You have to play/watch them to know what's going in in KH3. KH2 didn't leave any real build up for KH2 (much like KH1 didn't leave much build up for KH2, so they tried to add a little something with Chain of Memories, but for some people like me, it didn't really feel adequate and KH2 was kinda out there plot wise)
I like that they have some games inbetween KH2 and KH3 to build up the story first. I don't like how I have to buy a console to play the ones I want to play (Bought a PSP just for BbS, and now slowly and agonizingly saving up for a 3DS for KHDDD) KH2 felt rushed to me, I didn't feel as... into it like I did for KH1. It seemed like KH2 had nothing to really relate to or go on, it even repeated some story lines over. (Atlantica) But now with KHDDD and BbS, man, KH3 is built to be AWESOME! They have so much to continue on now, there's no way KH3 will be as bare and empty as KH2.
So yeah, don't go shooting down all the portable games. XD I guesss 358/2 Days is sorta kinda important, but honestly, you can know everything that's going on by only reading a quick summary of that at least. (I suppose the same applies to the other 2, but they are like real KH games, they're very enjoyable, they're just on a portable)

because it really had that sort of 'Disney' sensation in the game, just like BBS

Indeed. I think they introduced too many original characters in KH2. Not to say that's a bad thing, but in exchange for new characters, they didn't do enough for the Disney characters and throughout the game, I didn't feel nearly as attached as I did in KH1.
Like in KH1 in Atlantica, I really felt for Arial and defeating Ursula was an amazing feat! In KH2... I was just doing some random sing alongs. You didn't even have to finish the story line to complete the game I don't think.
Even now I'm trying to recall any big scenes that really stood out like in KH1 when Sora sacrificed himself and when Kairi returned him to normal. The most I can think of is when they thought Goofy died in KH2, but it was no where near as emotional. *to this day I go to youtube now and again to watch Sora smile before stabbing himself so willingly*
I mean, KH2 wasn't bad, I think they tried too hard to fit in all those new characters. Or rather, unlike in KH1 where the Disney characters were causing the havoc *therefore, tying Sora more deeply into their story lines* original characters were doing the evil doing, thereby reducing the role and attachment Sora really had in each world.
BbS, although it is being controlled by an evil dude, they still had big villains behind the scenes doing the planning (like Maleficent). Unlike in KH2, TAV felt like they were actually making a difference in each world.
Although I have spoiled myself on all the more juicy details of KHDDD, I have saved the actual world plots for when I can play the game myself, but from what I have seen, they do a swell job with that game as well.

I am pretty much right with you there on the spin off games, while I have played all of them, I got by on borrowing most and buying some. Some of them are actually pretty decent, but other's were dumb and unnecessary. I just hope that when they do release Kingdom Hearts III, they have a huge ex plainer for those that didn't play them. Anywho, I really like this piece, as I am a huge kingdom hearts fan myself.

I'm not a big fan of the classic disney characters and I had a lot of trouble with the mechanics so after a while I just gave up. This is a great picture though, I've always loved Sora's hair.
