Description
This is part of a collection that adapts and reimagines Norse Cosmology using some of the Trioctave layers. This image depicts the realm designated YG-04, known to those of this hypothetical setting as “Niflheim, the Mystic Chill,” an icy, mist-shrouded tundra that serves as the font of energetic hydration that sustains Yggdrasil via Hvergelmir.
Due to the alchemical nature of this frozen land, its only inhabitants are the Ymir, elementals of frost and water whose existence ensures the rivers that hydrate the Nine Boughs continue to flow, as most any organic creature or entity would be unable to endure the harsh conditions for an extended duration before dissipating into the very energies that keep it in formation.
The only part of the plane generally traversed by Outrealmers is one of two bridges known as the Pathways of Bifrost, with the Niflheimer pathway (known as “Heimdallr”) serving as the easiest and surest way to reach Svartalf, Helagard, and Jotunheim, with its entry gate in the Midgardian Southern Hemisphere following a constantly-shifting pattern of locations.
