Description When I started working on Trevor I didn't realize how exciting it would be to see his versions of the Valiant characters. As we moved through the first DIVINITY series it was very plains clothes people. Some military garb. And then we got to the cosmonaut suits, which were killer.

I loved that the series seemed so removed from the rest of the Valiant universe. So much so that I was bummed when it came time for Unity's entrance into the story. That is until I saw Trevor's versions of the characters. Bold in form, dynamic in lighting. Touches of realism laid over classic comic book style. Underneath it all he's a Kirby, but it's masked with modern, realistic rendering.

And the care and attention he gave each of them was not unnoticed. I felt like I was watching the movie of the Valiant universe. They were so powerful and confident in character and art style-that I forgot they were just lines on paper.

My favorite was his version of The Eternal Warrior. I had already seen it when Trevor drew him in his own series but hes seemed more defined in this version. Like Trevor had worked out any kinks and had locked Gilad in.

When you have smoke from a fire in the back ground, which you will have a lot of in super hero comics, you get the chance to play with textures and techniques. Here I chose to do a bit of an ink wash. I work light to dark and wet into wet for the most part. It's on Canson comic paper so it's not the best for watercolor stylings, but it came out okay. Use smoke and rubble to experiment. And have fun!

This is from The Book of Death: The Fall of Ninjak. Trevor Hairsine pencils. My inks with FW ink, Deleter nib, and Raphael 8404 #2.

Pretty cool stuff yet again, Ryan! I love the confidence of your lines in the crosshatching areas: quick, solid and well defined.

Thanks! Trevor is so good at rendering at hatching that working over him has been a great way to school myself and step up my crosshatching and rendering game. Hopefully I can keep it up.
