an unusual creature from the ocean depths, the Crustaceous Rex is one crustacean you don’t want to mess with. Seemingly part of its own evolutionary path, it usually lives too deep in the ocean to cause any real damage but after large quantities of giant squid where drove to the surface it’s natural predator quickly followed suit. Like most crustaceans, the Crustaceous Rex has no issue supporting itself on land however it can only be out of the water for 2 days at a time before it starts to become dangerously dehydrated. More than enough time to do a lot of damage in search of food.
Praying on giant squids the Crustaceous Rex stores any ink it digests and forms it into a sticky black mucus that can be used to aid in feeding and be used as defensive weapon. When facing a foe it needs to retreat from or needs to immobilising, it’s capable of spitting tar like ink that coats all it touches and is incredibly difficult to break away from. This tar is also used to keep food fresh and aid in predigestion.
Besides it’s tar shot, it is also capable of producing a more watery ink similar to a squid. This ability is mostly used underwater but if grabbed on land it will also spray wildly to try and escape. Overuse of the ink blast however can quickly deplete its ink stores given how much pure ink is used compared to the more mucus based tar, something other Kaiju can take advantage of. Much like other crustaceans, Crustaceous Rex can regenerate its limbs over the course of some time, taking anywhere from 3 days to 2 months depending on what part is missing, with tentacles regenerating the quickest.
due to its exoskeleton, most of its body is incredibly durable even for Kaiju standards with an expectation of its underside and tentacles which are fairly fragile. In combat Crustaceous Rex prefers to get up close, using a combination of its long tentacles, powerful limbs and jaws to get the edge in battle. Crustaceous Rex has been shown to be powerful enough to dispatch a Zilla easily and holding its own against Zilla Junior only to loose after being tricked into falling back into the ocean. The Crustaceous Rex may not be the most powerful Kaiju in existence but it’s durable shell, immobilising tar and unique biology make it a true force to be reckoned with, especially for its size.
now onto the design.
I tried to add more crustacean like elements to the design since, despite it’s namesake, Crustaceous Rex doesn’t look particularly crustacean like, something I thought I’d help with added exoskeleton and crab like inner jaws. It’s spines are now part of its exoskeletal plating rather than jutting out of the skin like a vertebrate would.
