Another classic Gamera foe from the Showa series, Zigra is a large alien creature with an almost goblin shark like design.

Zigra first appeared after invading earth in his own UFO with the intention of enslaving the human race, he is shown to be very intelligent and self indulged. Zigra is one of the few Kaiju capable of speaking and understanding the human language and uses this to full effect. Zigra is said to live in the deep depths of the ocean on his homeworld and as such is at home in water, using its increased speed and incredibly sharp dorsal fins to slice up foes, which are so sharp that they can cleanly cut through even the thick shell of Gamera. Zigra also has access 3 different beam attacks fired from different coloured sack like organs across the back of its head and face, at least 2 of them can be fired from within its spaceship. The orange Cell Activity Suspension Beam halts human cell activity, the green Fourth Dimensional Beam transfers matter and the red Earthquake-Inducing Beam does exactly what you’d expect plus explosions. weirdest ability of all however is it’s sudden ability to grow legs and retract them when needed, switching between aquatic and non-aquatic forms.

all in all it’s a very unique monster, granted it’s story does take several tropes from Viras before it which is probably why it doesn’t get that much love but personally I quite enjoy him, we don’t exactly get a lot of Shark kaijus as well.
