Description So yeah I completed another stitching project! I did not create this pattern, it is another one I bought from the company Dimensions and was designed by Susan Winget (the specific pattern is called Mediterranean Flavors if you want to buy it and do it yourself). It has been laying around for about a year and I finally had the urge to do it.  It is one of the more complicated ones I have ever done, but I love how it turned out! The colors all blend so nicely.  The next stitch I do should be my own pattern so look forward to that!

Overall I love this pattern. I've been going back and forth about purchasing a kit myself but I tend to stitch projects for people and I have no one in mind to give this one too, so it shall remain un-purchased. But this is beautifully stitched and I really like the frame for it because it doesn't pull attention away from the finished piece but allows the eye to be drawn in to the vibrant colors.

Now, as beautiful as this is, there are some techniques that will help make your next project that much MORE wonderful! ^_^

First, each leg of the X needs to go the same way. So, if you start going from lower left to upper right for the bottom ( / ) then the rest of your bottom stitches for all the colors need to go the same way. They don't have to go left to right but since that is the way I stitch, and it looks like most of yours go that way, that is what I would recommend. That means that your top stitch would go the other way, from right to left ( \ ).

The easiest way to accomplish this is to got all the way across one way and then go back the other way when you reach the end of that "row" for that color.

By going back and forth in the direction of your stitches your thread looks tangled/twisted and doesn't lead to the best coverage.

Which brings me to my next point, railroading.

This technique will not only help keep your threads laying nicely, it will help with the coverage of some of your stitches.

There are several Youtube videos and online tutorials you can check out, but basically when you railroad you come up through one hole to start your stitch and when you start to go back into the next one to complete your stitch, you use the needle to split the two pieces of thread. You do this on both sides of the fabric and for both legs of the X. This ensures that your threads lay parallel to each-other rather than twisting around as your stitch, as they like to do. But it only works when you have an even amount of thread for your stitching; 2 threads (1 thread on either side of the needle), 4 threads ( 2 threads on either side), 6 threads (3 threads on either side), etc.

Hope this helps and if you ever have any other questions please, feel free to send me a note and I can help point you in the right direction if I don't know the answer myself. ^_^

I have never heard of railroading before, thank you so much for introducing it to me!

I've always had trouble with twisting o hopefully this will help.  I'm glad you liked the pattern; this is personally one of my favorite stitches.

Thank you very much for the critique

Honestly, the whole doing it on the back side as well, I forget about constantly. So don't stress about that. The front side is what matters most since that is what people see. Now, you will still need to stop and let your needle unwind every couple of stitches, just let it and the thread hang for a bit and it does it on its own,  but it shouldn't be as bad if your railroad.

Dimensions has some really nice patterns, and when I was younger, I sewed a lot of their needlepoint patterns. I like this one - maybe in the dining room or in a breakfest nook. You did a good job on it.
