Nerd warning stop reading now to avoid an otaku rant:
It was made by go nagai (getter robo, devilman, mazinger z). Theres also re:cutey honey which is the latest remake...which is much better. There were a couple in the middle, one was ultra shoujo the other was grimdark and neither were as good as the first and last one
It was also the first magical girl anime where the magical girl fights.
There are fansubs of the first series out there...they aren't that high in quality but it's still a good watch.
