22 December 2004: Navy Gunners Mate 2nd Class Mark Brittain, Medford, Oregon Native attached to 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit's Navy Explosive Ordinance Division (left,) scans the area near Iraqi Border Fort Number 13 during 31st MEU's Border Fort Site Survey; as Lance Corporal Thomas Bonwell, Dublin, Indiana Native attached to 1st Battalion/ 7th Marine Regiment establishes communication (right). The Marines are inspecting the construction of the Border Forts to ensure they are being built to the proper specifications.31st MEU is deployed to the 1st Marine Division Area of Operations and is in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
