Description “How the hell can you see me?” Dean asked, looking over at Sam who was obviously oblivious to what was going on.

I hesitated, knowing that Sam would freak out if I started talking to Dean. I secretly gave him a sign that I would answer him when I had the chance. I had to think of some way to get out of the room and somewhere alone with Dean. Then I would be able to answer all of his questions.

“Sam, I’m gonna go check on your dad, okay? Dean seems to be doing okay, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If something else happens, I’ll come running, okay?” I said, trying to sound reassuring.

“Please don’t leave... I feel like you’re the only one who can keep him alive... You said you’ve never lost a patient, so I don’t want you to leave...” Sam spoke as if he had lost all hope. My heart was hurting for him, almost breaking.

“I promise, Sam. I’ll take care of him. Nothing in this world could ever make me stop caring for your brother. I just need to go check on your dad. I won’t be far. I promise,” I declared. He still didn’t seem too convinced, but he reluctantly nodded, watching his dying brother’s face. I turned to leave and discretely motioned to Dean’s spirit to follow me. I led him to an empty break room near his hospital room, knowing that I couldn’t go too far.

“Are you going to answer me, now?” Dean asked, obviously frustrated.

I sighed, “I can see all spirits. I can see reapers, spirits, demons, monsters... Everything. I can see everything for what it truly is.”

“So why didn’t you tell Sam? You obviously know that we know about this stuff, yet you kept it a secret.”

“If I had told your brother, do you think he would have believed me? He probably would’ve freaked out, just like everyone else I’ve told. The only reason you’re really not freaking out is because you’re a spirit right now, right?”

“No, because I’ve seen worse than this in my life. It’s not really weird to us. I mean it is, but not as weird as it is to other people, and Sam might actually trust you more if you told him. By the way, how can you see me?”

“I don’t know... I’ve just always been able to see things. That’s what really helped my dad out when he was hunting.”

“Is that why you haven’t lost a patient, too?”

“Yeah. You don’t seem surprised that my dad was a hunter.”

“I heard you. I wasn’t in the room, but I heard you. I’ve been following you since I woke up here. Well, woke up in a sense. I’m just happy that I can talk to someone, and that they can hear me and answer back.”

“I can imagine. I won’t tell them about my ‘powers’ unless it’s absolutely necessary, though. Just so you know.”

“Alright, but they won’t think of you as some kind of monster, either.”

“Yeah... Well, I’d probably better go check on your dad. Sam might come looking for me soon, if I don’t.”

“Eh, just tell Sammy that you got pulled off to the side by an intern to answer some questions. He’ll understand.”

“I don’t think he will, Dean. Not in this state. Normally, probably, but he’s pretty worked up. He’s really worried about you.”

“It’ll be fine. I know Sammy, and he’ll definitely believe you and won’t freak out.”

There was an awkward silence as I just stood there, thinking through what he just said, then I thought of the mention of him and Sam having a sister.

“You heard about your long lost sister, right?”

“Yeah... Sam’s right, our dad shouldn’t have kept her from us, but I understand why he did it... I just really wish that we’d have known...”

“What do you think of Sam’s idea that I’m her?” I asked hesitantly. I was afraid of what he’d say.

“I don’t know. I mean, you do look a lot like Sammy, but I just don’t know. You could be her, but there’s no way to know for sure,” he replied. I let out a slight sigh of relief. I didn’t really want to be this sister of theirs if they were in this much danger.

“Well, I hope you find her. It sounds like she could really use some family around her to protect her.”

“Yeah. Well, you should probably get going. Sammy’s gonna start looking for you if you don’t move, now.”

“Right. You can follow me, if you want. It’ll help me keep an eye on your condition.”

“Yeah.”

We started walking toward the door when Dean stopped me.

“What?” I asked.

“You saw that thing over my body, right?” He inquired. I nodded.

“What the hell was that thing?”

“A reaper. It’s after your soul. It’s gonna try to help you move on, but I’m not letting you move on. Your sister is gonna need at least you and your brother, and to find her, you’re gonna need me to keep you alive.”

“Unless Sammy’s right and you’re her.”

I cringed slightly at the thought, but nodded and headed out the door. Dean was close on my heels, and we headed for John’s room. Sam was still in Dean’s room watching over his brother. I knocked on John’s door.

“Mr. Winchester? Is it okay to come in?” I asked quietly.

“Yes,” he replied tiredly. He seemed ready to fall asleep, but he was obviously forcing himself to stay awake. He didn’t want to sleep in case the demon hunting them decided to attack.

I walked over and began looking over his chart when Sam walked in. John seemed to force himself to look more awake when his son came in. He obviously didn’t want his son to see his weakness, but Dean had already seen it since he was right on my heels the whole time.

“How are you doing, dad?” Sam asked him.

“I’m alright, son,” John replied, his voice stronger than when welcoming me into the room. I kept quiet about his real condition, not wanting to ruin the image he was trying to build for his sons.

“Good,” Sam said, smiling slightly, but it faded quickly. “That demon is still out there...” He sighed.

“Yes, it is. It wouldn’t have been if you’d have just done as I’d said, though,” John retorted, disappointment aching in his voice. It made me want to do anything that I could to make him feel better. I couldn’t stand it.

“That thing was inside you, dad! Had I done what you said, it would’ve been you and not Dean in the hospital bed like this, and you might not be surviving as well as he is!” Sam’s voiced raised in defense and frustration.

“Hey Sammy, just calm down, okay?” Dean said, his voice not reaching Sam. I tried to ignore Dean’s presence, not wanting to give away my secret.

“But at least the thing would be dead! The thing that killed your mother! You should’ve just pulled the trigger! It would’ve been better for the both of us! This is on your head!” John shouted, obviously angry and irritable from lack of sleep and his son’s constant pushing.

“Dad, that’s not fair to Sam! Besides, I’m right here!” Dean shouted at both of them. My eyes quickly flicked to him, but then back to John’s chart. Neither Sam nor John seemed to notice.

“You know what? Go to hell!” Sam hissed, almost foaming at the mouth with anger.

Dean seemed to be pushed over the edge by this comment. “Dammit!” He cried, knocking a glass of water from the table beside John’s bed. It fell to the floor and broke, and both Sam and John looked at the glass, but I stared, wide-eyed, at Dean.

“Whoa! I just full-on swayzed that mother!” Dean exclaimed as he smiled up at me.

“What did that?” Sam asked, a little hesitant.

“It could be the demon,” John said, very alert, now.

Dean looked between his father and his brother, offended that they would think that he was the evil that was chasing them. “No, guys! It’s me! I did that! You didn’t see me do that?”

I sighed, then set the chart on the foot-rest of the bed where it usually hung and quickly strode over to the door. I almost slammed the door shut, angry and frustrated, then turned to the family and glared at them.

“Dammit, Dean! Why the hell did you do that?!” I cried.

John and Sam both looked at me confused.

“What? That was epic! You can’t tell me that you weren’t impressed by that!” Dean whined.

“No, I wasn’t impressed, and no, that wasn’t epic! That was stupid, and you’re worrying your family! Sam can physically handle it, but he’s so rattled by your condition that he doesn’t need the stress, and your father is physically unable to handle it! What the hell were you thinking?” I was almost screaming at him.

Sam looked from me to the spot where Dean’s spirit was since he couldn’t see him.

“Oh, come on! It was epic, and you know it! I can’t interact with anything, but I totally flung that cup from the table! Sam is fine, and so is my dad. Like I told you before, we’ve handled worse,” Dean laughed.

I sighed and crossed my arms, glaring at him.

“What the hell is going on?” Sam asked, completely confused.

I sighed again then slowly and hesitantly began to explain my secret to Sam and John, telling them that Dean had been there the whole time and knew everything that they’d been talking about.

“Well, at least we don’t have to fill him in later,” Sam said.

John sighed and laid back to rest. This was the best course of action for him since he was obviously tired and in a lot of pain.

Dean sat there staring at me, silently waiting for someone else to say something.

“I didn’t want to tell you because I thought you’d freak out... Everyone else I’ve told has... Even the hunters that I’ve told... I’ve had to change my aliases a few times because of it... I’ve almost run out of names, so I used my real name here at the hospital...”

“I’m not freaked out by it. I think it’s great, since we can actually communicate with Dean. You can also keep him alive better this way. It’s so much better than waiting for him to wake up, plus I don’t have to listen to him bitch about anything that I say,” Sam smirked.

“Hey! I don’t bitch! You’re the one being a bitch!” Dean exclaimed.

“Yeah, well I do...” I sighed in exasperation.

“Sorry. I’ll try to keep the teasing to a minimum so you don’t have to worry about it,” Sam smiled sheepishly.

“Thanks. Now, what are we gonna do about the-” I started, but I was cut off by a cold chill behind me and Dean’s eyes growing wide.

“About the what?” Sam asked.

I turned around and saw a girl standing out in the hall, but I could see more than that. She was the reaper that was trying to help Dean move on.

Dean started to move, and I turned to see him dashing for the door.

“Wait! Dean!” I tried grabbing him, but my hand phased right through his, and he ran straight through the closed door toward the girl. I sighed and shut my eyes.

“What just happened? Where did he go?” Sam asked worriedly.

“Into a reaper trap... Whatever we’re gonna do, we’ve gotta move fast,” I said, turning to Sam. He nodded, and we quickly set off to try to find something to combat the reaper, but little did we know that John had his own plan in mind.
