Description Another submission for #Weekly-Environment

Hi-res version available.

Lagrange L2 asteroid field, hopefully I demonstrated it correctly, but I probably failed... I wanted to do some Trojans at first but had no idea how to demonstrate them being on almost the same orbit without it looking like the planet is going to be bombarded by asteroids.

Unanswered questions: Is the L2 even a field, like L3-L5 or a small spot? Can it hold a large number of bodies? Does it change with the gravitational shift of a destroyed planet, and if so, how?

Been doing some reading research on this and other themes I need to submit for the group because I found my knowledge lacking, hopefully will submit the others soon.

Time: about 2 hours, photoshop kept killing my layer effects when I started merging so I needed to change some stuff. QQ

I've been creating asteroid fields and planets in Photoshop, but nothing as cool as this! The star's light casting onto the cracking planet and the colorless surfaces of the asteroid rocks looks like a setting for a Riddley Scott film.

Are you thinking about providing a tutorial on how to create something similar to this?

Thank you, I'm glad you like it

It's not too hard, the trick is working with layers, something I usually don't do much:
-3 for stars and background. there is a stars layer, a light layer [huge soft brush clicks on one spot while I make them smaller and smaller] and color setting layer for where the light breaks into various colors, you can see it's effect on the edges more.
-1 for planet on which I just placed a black circle and erased where needed, then drew surfaces.
-And then another layer for the front, where I just drew black shapes with a chalk brush, then added grey surfaces and color dodged where they came close to the light. Then I used the mixer brush to flatten them out, which gave them a metallic surface feel. At the end I used gaussian blur on this layer, because it's close, and the eye focus is supposed to be on the planet, so they feels out of focus.

Hope this helps

I never really cared for the chalk brush untill you told me how you've created those asteroids with it. Thank you very much for your advice!

np
I don't use that many brushes, but it's one of my basics, it gives nice edges

What are your most frequently used brushes? I normally use the #2 pencil brush because I'm into digital sketching -though I post such material on a different account and haven't done so in a while- and have been looking for ways to improve my skills.

the #2 pencil? what does it look like? I don't think I have it D:
I deleted quite a lot of the defailt ones so it might be gone because of that lol. I use 3 of the default ones, which are the round hard, round soft and 44 chalk brush. Besides that I have a simple square one which I should use but I neglect... And then there are the cloud brushes for anything foggy or roundish, the crystals brush for an edgeless drawing, the foliage brushes for tiny details on big surfaces/leaf edges. But that's about it. The rest, I learned, can be imported via texture copy-pasta on a hard base drawing, so it doesn't really matter what you draw said base with.

The #2 pencil brush is one of the default brushes but I think it's part of Photoshop's presets and you can append the Dry Media Brushes (one of the preset brushes in photoshop) to get that #2. However, make sure to save your current brushes before loading up another set in case you accidentally select "Replace Brushes" instead of "Append Brushes".

The theme was an asteroid field, which I found boring on it's own, it lacked a story, so I had to put one in

בינתיים אין לי משהו רע להגיד, השתפרתי מהתמונה האחרונה שעשיתי.
אבל נראה מחר... אני כבר רואה ששכחתי לעשות הילה לכמה כוכבים אבל זה בקטנה.
