I made this piece back in 2013 before I first went to the BUCK Convention, but I never uploaded it.
I think it's more fitting now as BUCK announces 2016 as the last year of their con.

Before I went to BUCK, I was in a pretty bad place.
School was a nightmare, I was bullied to the point of people pulling knives on me, attempting to ambush me on my way home... I felt horribly alone.
So when I got on a train on my own and feebly walked down to the Convention centre, I was terrified. I didn't know what to expect, and suddenly there I was able to be happy.
Never in my life had I met anyone as friendly as the people I met those two days. People at that convention that I hadn't known for thirty seconds treated me better than people I had considered friends for years.
I felt more than just with my peers, I felt at home. I felt good for the first time in a long time.

So to hear that this year will be the last year of BUCK is a little disheartening...
I think rather than dwell on the sadness of that though, I'm going to look at what BUCK really did for me.
It helped me with my social anxiety to meet such great people, and I have some great friends now because of it.
I have more friends that I plan to meet for the first time this year when I go and I can't wait to make it the best Con experience possible.
Here's to the crew that have made BUCK possible, here's to the friends I've made and everyone who smiled, was kind to me and made me feel happy just by being awesome people at that event.
