It may be your first, but it's wonderfully expressive. The warm colours of her hair, skin, and clothes are a beautiful contrast to her blue eyes.

Indeed, you are right. You are using watercolor just as replacement of your digital coloring - almost as if you were filling blank spaces. I say that because I once faced the medium this way.
The colors are to heavy, light them up! Work with layers of colors, wet over wet, put your figure united with the backgroud, you will get surprised with the results.
I think your drawing style is near to gouache technique. Think about it. Hugs!
