While Istrala are most commonly known for their dominance of the land and the skies, even the oceans carry a fair number of the demons.

These aquatic Istrala carry morphological difference from their more land-based peers. Chief among these differences are gills (though they can also breathe air and tend to do so primarily), a slimmer, lankier build, and a greater number of digits on their hands and feet, all of which are webbed.

These changes make them slightly less versatile on land and in the air, but far more streamlined and capable of aquatic activity. That being said, these fully amphibious Istrala are more than capable of handling themselves on land and in the skies, and it would be wise not to underestimate them even when not in their element. Even so, the coastal ranges of the seas are where they thrive, watching over (and under) the danger-filled waters.

It would be best never to cross one of these demons, lest you find yourself capsized in a roaring ocean whose waters were calm mere minutes ago.

As all Istrala tend to be specialists in a very specific range of magic, aquatic Istrala almost invariably have powers that manipulate waves and weather. However, the monumental tasks are supremely draining, and even a trained and powerful Istrala can barely manage the feat for a few minutes at a stretch. Still, those precious few minutes could mean the difference between a ship's safe package or the sea floor being littered by its remains.

Captain Duvessa, known as "The Blue Devil" by the corrupt government officials in a nearby coastal town, is an especially infamous Istrala.

Little is fully known about her, though there is no shortage of rumors. Sailor tell horror stories about the demon, claiming her to be in league with death itself. Some even claim that she herself leads a demonic crew of Istrala. Far less common, but not unheard-of, are those that suggest that she is more merciful and kind than the town is lead to believe.

Though the full truth is not known, one thing is certain: Captain Duvessa is a force to be reckoned with. And EVERY sailor in the region knows of the existence of the Blue Devil.
