Arrival, Page 5

---

WOW, this was a lot of work. Implemented brand new, much cleaner, prettier linework on this, so I hope the difference is noticeable. And HEY! No more dark room! Yay no crazy illumination things! Boo drawing shadows and background objects!

the lineart makes this SO much better, I gotta say. Also, It seems you have some new shading, unless I'm going crazy.

Thanks so very much...

It really depends on what you mean by new. If you mean compared to the last time I drew these four in a fully illuminated room (back in the birthday part comic), then holy cow yes. That was back when I was still using Gimp *cringes*.

Don't get me wrong... I'm glad I had Gimp as a starting board for all of this, but... ughhh... it was so unbelievably limited and was so hard to do just about anything.

If you mean compared to recent works... it mostly be practice and learning... I've really, REALLY been working hard. Thank you so very much.

I was mainly talking about page 4. You do much better in illuminated scenes.

Yeah, I bet photoshop is like one million times better, although I bet its like 100 times more complcated.

Thank you; I really appreciate it. Illuminated scenes are both easier and harder. Easier because you don't have to go so in-depth with showing light sources and darkness levels; harder because you have to deal with all the nitty-gritty background objects, deeper perspective, and shadows.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but I kind of tried a little stylistic thing here. If you go back and read through from page 1, the perspective begins totally dark and gradually becomes more visible throughout the four pages; almost as if the viewer's eyes are adjusting to the dark. I thought that was a fun thing to try. and then when the room is actually illuminated, I wanted it to be as much of a shock (no pun intended) as if someone had flicked a switch and turned on the lights in a dark room in real life.

Photoshop IS more complicated than Gimp, but not unbearably so, especially because I had to help me in the transition. I feel like I'm STILL making that transition, as I keep learning really important, helpful, cool new things to try with it.

Is it bad that I giggled out loud when I reread this?
