Nariko is an old OC of mine and Raika is one I just created for this.
Nariko is a magical girl who hunts down corrupted spirits/gods who often have magical girl servants enslaved. She defeats these corrupted spirits and she does her best to free their servants.
Nariko always holds back, not wanting to hurt the other girls, so she always has a hard time fighting them.
Raika is the servant of the corrupted god of lightning/thunder and she has abilities related to such. She had an early advantage in the fight with Nariko and is now looking to finish her off.

I've been busy during the time I was working on my OC Challenge entry and then Theme of the Week came around with a new theme... being short on time, I decided to combine both and make one entry that fits both categories.
I hope that's not considered cheating or anything. D:

Made in Gimp with a borrowed 4x6 Wacom tablet
I used some brushes for the first time since I don't know how to make them yet. I downloaded them from dA so here are the credits for the brushes.

Most of my OC names are based on the name's meaning which somehow relates to one of their traits, that's why Nariko and Raika are named the way they are.

Ah this one's just a maelstrom or eye type (dunno what you really call it) where all the attention is supposed to be sucked into the middle or something like that. I'll probably be hit or miss in composition for awhile as I study it. xD
The effects are mostly brushes (see credit links) and some basic effects like Lens Flare and Supernova in Gimp.

I wanted the focus to be the two characters so I made sure the background and such would be 'there' but not steal any attention away from the middle. It's also the reason why I dulled out the moon and stars out a bit, they were originally too bright.

Between inking and coloring and googling how to do the effects this pretty much took up most of my weekend. That and the numerous breaks xD
It's good in a way cause I always used thicker lineart before. I like the thin one better. xD
