looks like an atomic bomb has just gone off over seaham. Does the person who left the first comment for this photo know anything about Raymond Terrace and what it is actually like? p.s. good photo

Very awesome photo.
I thought you weren't supposed to use a polarizing filter when shooting into direct sunlight? I heard that it was supposed to give weird grain and lines accross your photo......
not that it matters, this photo is flawless!

yeh too true. it does give wierd effects when shooting into "direct" sunlight... but this is shot into fog. its so thick that the sun is getting reflected and refracted enough so there isnt any light comming direct from the sun..

the filter helps cut through the fog also. visibility was only a few metres without it... i used it on all of the photos for that reason.

glad you like it. i appreciate your comments

yeh thats an interesting point. i live in the country but feel more at home in the city... usually its the other way around for most people. .although.. i guess that im appreciating the area at the moment with photography. i was quite lucky that i was awake that morning and that it was looking so nice.

polarising filters are pretty cheap. definatly worth plucking one up.

i am really liking these set of images you have just submitted. i love the soft feel to them. i think of being by the ocean and i can almost smell the salty sea air. although this one isn't near the ocean/river. still i love the early morning quality and the mist.

I love these empty fields you pass as you get further north, love the colours, and the sun looks huge.

S-D-R In reply to silentdark [2004-03-21 03:35:04 +0000 UTC]

yeh its maybe a bit too huge... but it really is dominating as it spreads light across the fields.

the thing that struck me was how green the grass was.. there were also a few cows about but i think they dissapeared into the fog like some kind of spirit cows.

It'd be kinda scary if they dissappeared, though, I mean... wait, nevermind, I've been reading too much Harry Potter.

Such greeness. I need to go back home more often methinks. Lovely image I find the slight yellow tint right where the sky meets the ground intriguing (sp?).

i there was a layer of fog that shrouded everything.. i think thats what your seeing. the polarising filter cut through most of the fog.. but left a kind of softness to the photo

variel In reply to S-D-R [2004-03-20 13:47:20 +0000 UTC]

I love fog. Except when you can only see for like five metres in front of you and your on a freeway marked 110k. Still it is such a lovely image. Hmm should have favved it the moment I saw it.

i think its too bright. would've been better if taken earlier.

S-D-R In reply to CGot [2004-03-21 03:30:44 +0000 UTC]

ahh yes too true.

unfortunatly i couldnt use a higher f-stop because that created a bit of lensflare.. the sun wasnt up when i drove past here the other way and all of the photos turned out getting clouded over by the fog. here the sun has broken above the fog.. maybe if i was about 5 mins earlier it would have been better but i was down by the river where i had originally meant to go.

thanks for being honest!

The sunrise tipping the blades of grass just gently like that is something indeed, this could be something direct from a dream, disorienting but comforting at the same time. How the land carries off into infinity, past the blinding light is what I like the most, this is total serenity coupled with dreamy indulgence.

so simplistic..yet so beautiful
those colours just entice me....
think ill join index drinker and put my tent up next to his

Great job

curious though??? how did you manage to capture this without any sun flares???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

S-D-R In reply to kilgore-trout [2004-03-20 07:49:43 +0000 UTC]

hrmm good point i was expecting to get atleast some flare.

theres a couple of things i think might have attributed to stopping it occuring.

- it was incredibly foggy, dispersing the sunlight and dimming the direct intensity, making it almost possible to look at the sun.

- the polarising filter then removes most of the dispersed light in the mist increasing the view distance.

- high shutter speed and low f-number (high f-number creates more flare)

thanks so much for the comments
