Your recent photosets, the Spiderweb woman birth of a moth, skeletal lady baroque, and the spiderweb woman vampire with the skeletal cat, the flood of those sets got me thinking about why I find your dark sets as beautiful and captivating as I do with any of your other sets (Mermaid, space girl, steampunk, etc).
In darkness is depth, mystery,...darkness precedes all, precedes the light, it is the foundation upon which all else is built. Without darkness, what is there for light to shine within? The beauty of light is framed by the beauty of darkness. Most people that know me are oft surprised that I like dark stories--vampires, zombies, demons. I love the light, the sun, birds singing, flowers blooming, blue skies, painted clouds at evening, but I also love the dark night sky, walks in cemeteries, thunderstorms, reading Edgar A. Poe, pondering the unknown--I do not want to go through life self-blinded. I love books, movies, and photos that set my mind to wondering, exploring, questioning, and playing with the "what if's"...
In gothic darkness, there is a beauty--a beauty that arises from breaking out of the norm, a beauty that arises from the courage to examine, to—as paradoxically as this may sound—shed light on the dark. When we fear others, we put blinders on and do not see them properly. When we fear the unknown, we become blind to it. We trade one darkness for another, for a cowardly one that only gives us false comfort, illusory comfort. Like when we fear death: we become blind to it and as paradoxical as that may sound, being so blind actually diminishes the full appreciation of the light of life. True darkness is part of reality, of truth, of beauty. As stated above, darkness is the frame that enhances the light. (Hmm, or is light the frame that enhances the dark?)
Long way to say that I have never seen anyone embrace the dark as beautifully as you do. I am often held bewitched, mesmerized, even when my first reaction to some is to drawback momentarily but then the beauty draws me back in. I have to agree wholeheartedly with others who are amazed by your eyes--the depth and power of your expressions are amazing, sometimes even spine-tingling. One cannot see your portrayals, your characters, and not be moved, not be touched in the heart, mind, or soul. You are a master at what you do, a consummate artist. So damn creative! What further sets you apart is that you really do seem to enjoy what you do and are not just going through the motions. I love your creative sense. Brava!

You are welcome. It is easier to write when one has a great muse to inspire them, and you have become one of my muses. I've been working on making changes to give myself more time to write; at times my belief in myself waivers and kind words like yours encouraged me to keep at it. As you know, I was inspired by one of your photos to write a story based on that photo, but that has now expanded--there is a set of stories I am working on the plots for which are all inspired by your photos. And any day that I can write is a fantastic day.
