I'm so happy they're back! They've been one of the biggest influences on me.I'm also glad the band is back in 2D (no pun intended), didn't like their 3D versions at all.

Well he probably goes through a million designs before he decides on one. Like every other artist. But the designs he does choose are always spot on!

It's interesting that you like a virtual band like Gorillaz. I read Wikipedia, and they saw they're gonna release an album on the 28th of April 2017.
I also like music, though my taste involves K-pop, Hip-hop, rap and remixes.

Some of the very first drawings I uploaded on Deviantart were drawings of Gorillaz, mainly 2-D. That was 9 years ago.
I was a huuuuge fan and it influenced my art style a lot. When they became 3D characters I wasn't interested anymore. It kind of died out for me. But now they're baaaaaaaaaaaaack in 2D.
Now I love them again. =w=

I tell ya man, the realisation wasn't bad, but to me it felt like they completely lost their special character and style. Hewlett's art is so unique and filled with magic (I have no other way to describe it) and that COMPLETELY vanished when they made them 3D. They looked like any other 3D character. The magic in the brushstrokes was missing.

Besides the style wash another thing really bugged me, 2D's empty eye sockets didn't...well.. look empty at all! He looked he had black spheres filling them!

Hmm, well, they actually did that on purpose. Cause actually 2-D didn't lose his eyeballs. He has an 8-ball-fracture and got his eyeballs pressed back into the skull.
For the longest time I also thought he lost them, but then I saw a video where Murdoc and 2-D explain how they met and how the accident happened.

You got the story right, and Murdoc even says 2-D's "eye came out", but then 2-D corrects him and says it was pushed inwards and fractured.
