ENTRY FOR NORDANNER'S ANNUAL
Dragon Hunt 2022

Put all of that Cartography practice to work! Upon the passing of our beloved Queen Alora, we have learned that there are a number of sources of great magical power out there that are yet undiscovered. Tack up, gather your supplies, pack a map, and go in search of these arcane sources! Watch out for guardian monstrosities!

Potions Used: Toxicate and Goldenwing
Location: Malgosfrom
Species: Orthoraptors and Estorn

In case I don't have time to bore you guys with a terrible story, I wanted to note a few things going on in the picture in case you don't pick up on it just by looking.
> Gex and Judge's toxicate potion is wearing off, which is why they are the ones being attacked by the orthoraptors.
> All weapons are coated in a deadly toxin mixed up of toxicate potion, Estorn and Swamp Mule salivia, and other deadly ingredients.
> Irwin's rider has smoke bombs that he is using to try and divert the attention of the beasts away from the Nordanner team.
> Those tricky Estorns are stealing arrows and the extra potions. The bird-like creatures mimicked the voices of the team and fooled them into tossing the last bottle of toxicate potion in hopes of splitting it between Gex and Judge. The team realized quickly what a mistake that was when one swooped down and carried off the bottle.
>Eventually, after fighting off the orthoraptors, Cadaver is able to ward off most of the estorns since her corruption seems to make them leave her alone. This allows the other members of the team a chance to escape.

I thought long and hard if I was going to even enter the hunt this year, considering I barely check dA anymore and haven't been active in quite some time. But trust and believe that's nothing to do with my lack of love for this place and the breed. I miss ya'll terribly! Life just happens and pulls our focus in different directions somtimes, but I'm hopeful that direction will soon change and allow me to devote more time to art and this breed that will always hold a special place in my heart.
I finally convinced myself to dive in and start bringing this entry to life. For months now, even before the hunt was announced, I have been coming up with different ideas while I was at work, driving, just doing whatever and suddenly an idea would pop into my head "damn, yeah! can't forget to add this little detail or that one when the hunt rolls around this year." I am glad I decided to go through with it, because overall I am happy with the end result. Even if I don't place this year, I am satisified with the fact I got to create this badass piece and draw some of my favorite nords again.
I learned a few things while working on this piece. 1) I really need to stop waiting so long in between drawing things. I am russsttty as hell. I haven't drawn anything other than a few random doodles for my kids since my last post.... which was almost a year ago I believe? Might have even been last year's Dragon Hunt entry now that I think about it. Yikes. 2) SAI and Photoshop will continulously crash with ginormous files. Lmao... I cussed so much working on this f*cking thing, but at the same time I was so relaxed and whole-heartedly enjoyed it. Really made me realize how much I miss the community and creating art of all the pretty ponies. Hope everyone is doing well!
