In "The Ring," Samara's adopted parents raised horses. Samara possessed the ability to force other people to perceive, in their minds, what she could see or imagine, and after her parents became afraid of the images she couldn't prevent herself from showing them, they locked her up in the barn above their horses. The horses irritated Samara; "they kept her up all night." Unfortunately, Samara's power affected the horses as well, and she eventually caused them so much distress that she drove them to suicide. The maddened horse in that image is a reference to this event from the movie.
