Description My first peice on Photoshop CS4 64bit, done for practice, to add something to my gallery, and just to see how CS4 handles my working style. I must say I was impressed by how minor cosmetic tweaks, always centering the piece your working on, and "snapped" down windows work. Only thing I don't like is the fact that when I CTRL+Click a layer I have to click right on little preview pane, instead of the layer "bar."

Haven't touched photoshop in eight months, so I'm a bit rusty. But I would appreciate any comments given.

-SAB

P.S. Wow everything looks so small on my 25" monitor... I also realized that perfect circles get stretched to look like ovals on my monitor... heh.

Nice work Sab, I like the reflection lighting, and the border most

and oh I love CS4 64bit too using Quad SLI and having all the ticks in the boxs of the new GPU PS accelerators, makes for one very smooth working area

Dude I installed CS4 and its too damn laggy, even moving an empty selection around or the layer blending options window makes it lag. Maybe theres something up with the copy I got cause my processor is an intel core 2 quad q9550 oc'ed up to 3.1 ghertz.

Hmm well thats strange... it shouldnt do that. Although I do know that CS4 actually utilizes your graphics card to do things like mangifying and moving windows, its a bit more flashy that way, so if you have a really old or unsupported graphics card that may be it. Also be sure that ur using CS4 64bit if you're on Vista 64bit, because the 32bit Version of CS4 would probably lag like that. Try upgrading your graphics card driver and checking which version your using, is the only advice i can give you. GL man

It wasnt my drivers, its just the first version of CS4 that is so buggy, thank god Adobe released "Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update" which fixed everything cause I had deleted my CS3 version.

Thanks though.

I'm actually glad that I AM staying in a dorm first year, if I stayed at home I would probably go insane. My mom would yell at me everyday to get up off my @$$ and do something, and I would mostly likely be yelling at her for yelling at me... we'd probably end up murdering eachother in the end... heh.

Sab0r In reply to theCasualties [2009-04-15 15:26:11 +0000 UTC]

Haha. Yeah, I'm going to the University of Connecticut, not too excited (was looking for something with a better name for itself), but at least the school has a bit of a reputation for being a party school, and they have a kick ass basketball team (39 in 0!!!)... Plus I know like half of the current freshman class there already. Where are you going?

theCasualties In reply to Sab0r [2009-04-15 17:30:07 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I think I'm going to Arizona State University. Like 2 years ago or something it was the number one party school in the nation so I like that reputation. Probably majoring in graphic design?

Sab0r In reply to theCasualties [2009-04-16 02:24:43 +0000 UTC]

Nah I'm probably going to go into electrical or computer engineering, I have always been into electronics and whatnot, so that would probably the best carreer choice for me. What about you? Going into art/graphic design?

theCasualties In reply to Sab0r [2009-04-16 06:28:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah more than likely, I want to start learning some new languages, maybe even some 3D programs/animators and video editing. I definitely want my career to be something along those lines. College should be fun though.

Great piece Sab you havent lost your touch, I was about to say what Eagle-Designz said about that reflection on top of the orb, only I believe you should blur all of them over there a little. By the way I havent tried Photoshop CS4 yet cause ive been told its "heavy" is that true?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sab0r In reply to Aspras [2009-04-11 15:23:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Aspras, but I would think that blurring all the reflections would make the orb seem out of focus, you need something crisp to give it shape I think.

As for CS4 being "heavy" its not that big of a change, the only main change I notice is that all the windows are now skinned with a simplistic grey skin. Then after that you start noticing little changes like all the windows are snapped down (which you can unsnap and close whichever ones you want, to have something CS2ish), all your pieces that you are working on are in a "Maximized" state and centered at all times, and that when you start zooming in a grid appears, and some of the filters seem to work faster... Its just small changes that I think sum up to a better photoshop experience overall, there aren't really any massive changes that I could say would make it "heavy." The only thing that is heavy about it is CTRL+Clicking layers, because you actually have to pay attention where you're clicking which = a major pain in the @$$.

good work, but personally think it would look better if you feather that small white reflection at the top instead of having it as a sharp circle. heh but still looks kick ass

Sab0r In reply to samlewis [2009-04-11 15:12:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Eagle, I usually don't blur my reflections, I try to keep them crisp, and then again I was mostly influenced by and ... But I will take it into consideration next time. Thanks again

Axertion [2009-04-10 20:00:50 +0000 UTC]

thats damn good for a eight month break.

The layer selection was moved to the preview because the CS series allows you to selection multiple layers holding CTRL and it wouldn't work if you CTRL+clicked the layer. You have also do shift to select multiple and group them ect. I've gotten used to this 2 years ago lol, I guess you haven't upgraded in awhile

The snapped layout and tab system is the best features though. There is nothing better than a clean working space and CS4 definitely gives you that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sab0r In reply to Axertion [2009-04-10 21:35:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Axe. Ya, eight months is a long time to go without photoshopping a single thing...

I noticed the mutiple selection of layers by CTRL+Clicking on the layer, but it just seemed a bit useless to me since you can do anything using one layer at a time... I do selections from multiple layers more than I need to delete or filter mutiple layers...

As for the late update, I used CS2 for a while because my old computer had it, and it never failed me. I once tried to update to CS4 but the new skin didn't show up on the windows, so it looked terrible, and I was comfortable with CS2, so I thought "Why Change?"
