Two spotted hyenas from the Bronx Zoo. Usually they are out of sight, hiding in the bushes somewhere and taking a nap. There are moments when they're up and out. You just have to get there at the right place and the right time.Related content

I wonder what gender these two are
My first thought is the one at the back with less spots than the other might be a female, because it looks bigger (female spotted hyenas tend to more bigger and muscular than males)

They're both either female or male (it pretty much depends, though I could ask the keepers next time I visit).
Yep, females are indeed bigger (plus more dominant and aggressive) than males in spotted hyena society.
