Description Found in the American Museum of Natural History. Its name meaning 'Ancient Paradox,' this prehistoric aquatic herbivore once inhabited northern Pacific coastal region, from the waters of Japan to Alaska in the north, and as south as Baja California, Mexico. It was said to have fed primarily on seaweed and seagrass and spent most of its life walking across the sea bottom like a marine hippo, and might have been a fully marine mammal like manatees and dugongs.
