High contrast of darkness and light, strong diagonal composition, high view-point, perspective of raindrops pulling the eye down to the kneeling figure, straight lines contrasting with curvy tentacles - just incredible, so much going on here. Β So beautifully done!Β Very thought-provoking work too;Β at first I thought the tentacles were coming out of the figure's head, implying that its thoughts were expanding out into the environment - the opposite of the "surrender" implied by the title.. but I think instead they are coming from outside, and implanting themselves into the brain of the human figure... controlling its thoughts, while other tendrils coil around its ankles and control its body... Β so fascinating, I really love it.Β You are a real inspiration. Β And the title - one of my favourite words in the English language...

I tried to keep the scene light... as if she's accepting her destiny , I tried to make the tentacles look playful and rather gentle adding those twirls ..
This work pretty much represents me and my corruption from different Deviants on this site 
(need to rework the entrance point of the tentacles on her head..)

Such a crazy good illustration, the depth you've achieved on those tentacles is fantastic, and you're control of the angle is so strong, every element is in such awesome perspective, from the details on that foot and the shadows creeping across the ground to the rain beating down on everything, this is an inspirational piece of art right here!Β

Oh really? Honestly I can't see any evidence of giving up in the work (sorry just woke up wanted to pun the title, but brain was like "nahh") the only thing that remotely dis-harmonizes them from the rest of it is they don't have any little white specks of light like the big boys do (which makes those babies pop so nice btw), but yeah I agree this is definitely one of your best, so many great decisions made in here, such as the black edge dividing the composition, you really made great use of it to show that rain pattering down and keeping it balanced and interesting!Β Β Β

You're right about that I never let myself just blast large fields of dark values in my graphite stuff, but ink work really benefits from it doesn't it?
You always do such interesting research when you prepare to illustrate something, I can only imagine where you've been skulking about on this one!
