(Lorelei [LORE-eh-lie] 's legend has been interpreted by many, but the one I know of is that of a gorgeous young lady in Ireland, who had three children with a lecherous husband. She was distraught one night and drowned her children in the Rhine River, before taking her own life in the water. The story goes that she became a siren, crying about what she had done and luring men, presumably looking for her husband, to save her and the kids from the river, before pulling them beneath the water.)
