It's kind of funny really that Yveltal is bigger. It is based off the eagle that lives in the branches of Yggdrasil. Whereas Xerneas is based of the stags that live beneath the branches of the tree. The antlers also represent Yggdrasil. By the way, I like this image. I especially like Xerneas's face.

I think I remember reading something like this back before the games were actually released; you know, when theories surrounding games and characters are prevalent because we haven't discovered the games for ourselves yet. It really shows how much research are put into the creation of the Pokemon world.
