Agree. Mantises are absolutely great.
Where I live, there are none...but I got the chance to see them once when I was at the seaside.
I was...astonished. Such an...alien creature with a look of a...sapient thing. The way mantises turn their heads to look at you really interests me.
Thnks for such a detailed picture. Can I use it as a reference of some sort? I'm thinking of drawing a mantic-like creature (the image won't go further than my gallery).

Another excellent photo! I love mantises! o__o I hope you one day conquer your fear of them. I've only found them twice, once a few years ago at my schoolyard and once last month weeding a garden. They're really pretty, even though their claws look sharp. X3 Nice shot, you must have a good camera(or you're just very talented)

f-stop is derived by dividing the focal length of a lens by the diameter of the lens opening. There are a series of f-stops defined as full stops. Each f-stop would allow either half as much or twice as much light compare to the next f-stop. With a lens of a fixed focal length, the bigger the diameter opening of the lens will result in a smaller f-stop value. A f-stop of 11 would mean a much smaller opening in the lens than a f-stop of 1.4
In the camera you may notice this annotated as f/2.8 or f/5 etc.. Hope you understand apertures better now

that's ok
the reason I was curious: low F stop values (f/1.2 to f/4) give nice blurring effect in the background. If I had to guess, I'd say this picture was a wide aperture
