Description Jan Palach square, Prague
The building was designed in neo-renaissance style by the architects Josef Zítek and Josef Schulz and was opened in 1885. It bears the name of the Crown Prince of Austria, Rudolf (as Prague was a part of Austria-Hungary).
There's Dvořák Concert Hall, which is famous for its great acoustics and belongs to the oldest concert halls in Europe. Antonín Dvořák himself conducted here the very first concert of the Czech Philharmonic (1896). Then, Rudolfinum became home of the Czech Philharmonic orchestra and the statue in front of the building represents the composer and conductor Antonín Dvořák.
Rudolfinum is also one of the main venues of Prague Spring International Music Festival which is held each year 12. May - 4. June (for the first time in 1946).
The building also contains the art gallery called Galerie Rudolfinum, which focuses mainly on the contemporary art.
