Description This was for 's birthday last year...and I didn't get around to it...until like May this year e_e;;;; I wanted to try one of those skins that switch the equalizer and main window, because they also looked fun. I liked this when I first made it...but then I looked at it like last week, and was like 'wtf was I doing?' so I tried to change some things...and it just looked worse |D so I guess it'll stay as is. No volume bar, sorry~

I don't think I'll use purple for a while now....

I tried moving it, but I still think I'm doing something wrong. I took a picture, so maybe you could see if you can spot what I'm messing up on?

I'm so sorry I'm bad at this~. orz

Don't worry about it! All programs are confusing when you just start using them! And I'm insanely flattered that one of my skins inspired someone to try Winamp!

I think I see what the problem is, so tell me if you get lost along the way, or if it just doesn't work.

1) Create a folder in "My Documents" named "Winamp Skins".
2) Hit the "Set skins directory..." button
3) Select the "Winamp Skins" folder you just created from the list that appears.
4) Re-download my Apocalypse Fall skin and save the zip file to your "Winamp Skins" folder.

You should be able to select it =]

Okay, I think that got me a little closer...when I select it it turns everything into...not Waltz. D;

I didn't -save- the zip file to that folder, but moved it there after downloading, is that okay?

I took another picture of progress thus far.

Thanks for being so understanding and helping me~.OTL

I'm not sure if I could explain what looked to be your problem without going into a semi-technical response, but I can try if you like xD So I suggested the new skin directory and fresh zip as a clean slate kinda deal.

And I'm happy to help!

ParabolaBeam In reply to Saek [2010-07-11 01:28:27 +0000 UTC]

Go ahead and get into that response, something's better than nothing~. XD

I never really knew anything about winamp until I looked at your skin, so I'm kinda lame at this.

Should I just uninstall it and reinstall it to start over completely? Because I am clicking to set the skin directory, and for some reason can't get the Waltz skin in there or something, I don't know. ; It looks like the Bento/Big Bento designs are somehow going into the Waltz folder though?

Acccckkk.

Lol, I don't want to scare you away from Winamp ;.; If my explanations are confusing, I'll try screencaps!

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-11 01:50:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if it's a setting, but when I uninstall Winamp, my skins folder is left untouched.

Let's see...

If I remember correctly, a first installation of Winamp contains the Skins folder. Within the Skins folder, there are 3 other folders: Winamp Modern, Bento, Big Bento. The default skin directory is the Skins folder.

Winamp reads folders, .zip, .wsz (classic), .wal (modern) files as skins. If any of those four types are within the chosen skin directory, it will appear in the skin list to be selected and used.

In your 1st screencap, it looked as though the skin directory was your Waltz folder. The about/notifier/player/scripts/shade/etc., folders shouldn't be there, and most likely belong in the Winamp Modern, Bento, or Big Bento skin folder.

Did that help at all?

ParabolaBeam In reply to Saek [2010-07-11 01:58:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah, so should I try moving the about/notifier/player/scripts/shade/etc., folders out and leaving the Waltz folder alone?

Er, yeah, maybe screenshots would help after all. I'm so sowwee~. XD

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-11 02:09:05 +0000 UTC]

Moving those folders out would just make things look nicer, and isn't really necessary.

To me it sounds like you're having the most problem with the "Set skins directory..." I'll go over my numbered steps with images too this time, ok? ^^ Gimme a few minutes and I should have it!

It's really not your fault! I should have the instructions posted in my gallery anyway xD;

Totally welcome! I tried to cap all the important bits

Visual~: [link]

We're going to try the clean skin directory again. I made the empty Winamp Skins folder in My Documents.

1. Head back to the skin browser. Press the "Set skin directory..." button.
2 -> 3. When the selection box appears, choose the folder you'll save your winamp skins to. Hit ok. This folder shall become the skin directory. You can use any folder on your computer, but having one dedicated to winamp skins should keep things more tidy.
4. If you want the skin to appear in the list, make sure the .zip file is saved in whatever folder you set to be the skin directory.
5. If all goes well, the files should appear and allow you to select them in the skin browser!

Did I miss the mark again?

Ooh, I think I see what's wrong, but I'm not sure what to do about it.

When I download the skin off your page, it's a regular zip folder marked Waltz instead of a PKZIP thing marked Apocalypse Fall.

I don't know how to make it a PKZIP though...

Thanks again for your continued help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-11 02:58:06 +0000 UTC]

The file should be fine. Mine says PKZIP because that's the program I use with zip files, but that doesn't matter. Did everything else look ok~?

And thank you for sticking around

Ah! I got something to happen!

[link]

It still looks a little wonky though, don't know how to fix that. D; And the window with Waltz's body is fused to the winamp library window.

No problem, my pleasure~.

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-11 03:42:11 +0000 UTC]

That's perfect! You got it to work!

The winamp windows will move individually if you click on a blank part and drag them. If you move the main winamp window (in this case, Waltz's body), all of the windows attached to it will follow it around. I'm not sure if you have the equalizer window open, but if you right click Winamp you should be able to bring it up~

Oh god, please help me. I have no idea how to download this skin. D; I tried downloading the ZIP from this page, and using the tutorial you linked to implement it, but I'm so hopelessly lost. D;

Firstly, -do- I download it here? ;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-10 11:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you download it from here! Make sure you don't unzip the skin though.

What part are you stuck at exactly? Getting this skin to appear under your skin menu?

(Also If you know how to change file extensions, you could change the .zip to .wsz and then simply click on the skin.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParabolaBeam In reply to Saek [2010-07-10 20:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes exactly, I can't get it to appear under the skin menu. OTL

I tried like, moving the folder to a place where I could click it at the set skin something or other, but just got confused.

My ineptitude at this really bums me out because quite honestly, this skin makes me so happy in the pants. XD

(Dunno how to change file extensions. n////n Sowwee~)

Saek In reply to ParabolaBeam [2010-07-10 20:09:24 +0000 UTC]

Aw, don't be bummed! We'll figure it out

Let's see...did you change the skin directory yet? It was the set skin option. If you didn't, you could simply move the skin to the default skins directory. The default is usually

C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins

How do you get those players Ive been tring to get one

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saek In reply to SakiSolitare [2010-04-26 23:36:28 +0000 UTC]

This isn't really a player. It's just a skin to make the Winamp player look different. You'll need the actual player to use it. The player is free and can be downloaded from Winamp.com : [link]

~malionette has a tutorial for installing Winamp skins. It's here: [link] She also made a tutorial on piecing it together (if it isn't already) as well as moving it. That one's here: [link]

Enjoy!

Thanks~! ^^ Good to know these don't go to waste!
