Description I'm going to cut my hair on Wednesday so I'm doodleing some hair styles by the moment. I like this one. I'm kinda scared to color my hair orange but I think it would look good according to my clothing style. I suit well in orange according to my mom XD

Well, given that I'm here anyway, allow me to answer this question and steal some of SagaTale's thunder. I'm going to assume you're using Photoshop, though it should work with any tool that allows you to blur images and use layer masks. Having a gradient tool really helps, but I actually did manage to create a similar effect in PaintTool Sai just now (though masks seem somewhat limited in Sai's case, and the blur tool doesn't offer many options).

What you'll want to do is duplicate the layer your image is on. On your duplicated layer, go to Filter->Blur and pick a blurring method you like (I find Lens Blur to yield similar results to what's seen in this picture). Fiddle with the settings a bit and make it as blurry as you want the edge of the image to look. Add a layer mask to your blurred layer and select the gradient tool. Be sure to actually work on the layer mask and not the layer itself, and pick the gradient that goes from black to white to black (this'll give you an effect similar to the one in this picture. You could pick any type of gradient for other effects). Drag a line where you want your gradient to go, and this should give you a sharp center and blurry edges. If you end up with a blurry center and sharp edges, reverse your gradient or swap your first and second color around. What this does, basically, is hide the center of your blurry layer, which makes it show the original sharp image underneath.

Seeing that i'm a beginner at digital art this sounds a little complicated. I'll try to follow these steps.. but i don't use Photoshop, i find it hard but i have another program that does something similar. Thank you for replying.

Well I will answer anyways XD
Because I use another method ;D

Well yeah I use Photoshop so this might not help you, but in Photoshop CS6 there is a special blur option that has the name "Tilt-Shift". When you use that option you can make it blurry in this kind of way as the picture has :3

It's a new feature and it's a lot easier to use ^ ^

I use Photoscape, it also has this feature.
