"Hey, Hase-kun.... I like...
FIREWORKS!"
...I'm pretty sure Yuki emotionally died a little on the inside when Kaori said that to him.
More One Week Friends fanart. Told you I was on a binge. I finished this one basically the very next day after the other drawing I finished. That's the fastest I've ever pushed anything so detailed out so close together like that. It was fun being on such a roll for once!
This is based on episode 8, the one with the notorious quote from above that makes fans of the series want to scream from its teasing. This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. It's very sweet, and there's lots of beautiful scenery in this episode -- sparkling ocean water, beautiful sunsets, and starry skies. This show goes all out with its scenery artwork; it's amazing and inspiring. My absolute favorite part of this episode (one of my favorite moments of the whole series) is when the gang get fireworks and sparklers to play with. It's a such a simplistic, cute scene accompanied by heartwarming, soft music. The sparklers all look so pretty, and you can clearly see how much fun all the characters are having together playing with them and goofing off. Shogo and Saki teasing Yuki by pointing the sparklers at him while he tries to run, and Yuki playing around with the sparklers to be silly, a little grin on his face as he plays around with them with Shogo.
It's just a really cute scene. I really wanted to draw something based on it. Thus, we have Yuki and Kaori playing with sparklers together on the ocean-side. Yuki's just being all silly and goofing off with the sparklers like we see him doing in the anime, and he shares his flame with Kaori to light hers, inspired by the scene where she asks him to lend her his flame.
At first, after only drawing Yuki to begin with, I wasn't all too confident with going forward to finish this up. I drew the characters on paper -- I made the drawing too big and had to cramp it, so Yuki's feet got cut off. xD; I had to draw in the rest of it with my tablet after scanning it to color. I honestly wasn't planning on making any fancy background, either. I was just gonna add a simple circle or abstract blob in the back, but it just didn't seem right for a scene set at night-time. Wasn't sure how painting a whole background was gonna work as it's not something I'm terribly used to, but I was able to pull it off, so I'm very satisfied with it. ;u; The ocean and sky were very pretty in this scene in the anime, so I tried my best to reference some screenshots and emulate that pretty look. Making all the prints in the sand was very new to me as well. Painting in the scenery was all challenging, but it was fun experimenting with it! I also had a heck of a time figuring out how to shade the characters. Figuring out how to shade by the light sources from the sparklers, on top of keeping it dark enough for being a scene at night was difficult. I think I pulled it off in the end fairly enough. I'm happy with it. ;u;
Everyone wears neat outfits in this episode as well. Drawing Yuki in his was really fun; he looks good in that outfit. The sparklers were fun as well. 8D
