Description I've been drawing so much with traditional media the past month. I figured that some of the highlights deserve a proper place here. <3

I'm all out of story creativity for now. Feel free to write your own in the comments.

I used Micron fineliner and Promarkers. Took about 1 hour (honestly, it's faster than digital).

Follow me on Instagram.  (I'll post updates/wips as I go on)
Follow me on Tumblr.  (I post collections of updates/wips and final piece to give indication of my workflow).

The hues you've selected for the navy and gold just create that traditional verdant-esque blend that you'd actually see a bit in the anime.

Very well done. You have just earned yourself a watcher.

Thanks so much for your eloquent and kind comment. I appreciate it a lot!

I'm glad that my color mismatch worked out so well for you. XD (I did the background first, and then I decided I wanted a SSJ aura).

Lots of great results come from accidents I guess. XD

I love how you did her muscles. Saiyan women should be buff.

Thanks for noticing! I feel the same way. I think SSJ is a 'bulging up' and shouldn't look super feminine. (Although You can definitely still look attractive/feminine/hot with more muscle).

GoddessMynnie In reply to saiyanbura [2015-12-21 16:27:34 +0000 UTC]

I agree fully. I find muscular women can still be very feminine and attractive looking. It seems odd that some artists who draw SSJ women draw them still rather thin and not strong looking but only focus on making them hyper-feminine. Did you see how buff teen gohan got when going SSJ2 and fighting Cell? If you're more curious about that stuff, I can totally dive into the double standards all day even with female athletes.

saiyanbura In reply to GoddessMynnie [2015-12-26 09:17:08 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh I'm well aware of those double standards which is why I do try to not sexualise my fem characters too much. I cant stand 'slut armor' arghhhh. I practice Krav Maga and armor should be fucking functional first. So all the 'boob and thongs' armor.... Ugh just kill me.

That of course is just my general rule and every once in a while I do feel like sexing it up just because I like drawing half naked people. Hahahaha. It takes a lot of energy to draw well balanced characters not overtly sexualised.

Also the DBZ armor is only semi functional. I definitely need shin pads/protection in order to not die of pain. Either the DBZ chars have padding in their boots or their shin nervs are dead....

Anyway, part of the above is drawing muscle on my chars. I would appreciate some reference photos from real life bulged up women if you happen to have any. I wanna see how much of that i can add to Bra and see what the limit is.

Nice to see some traditional pieces! This looks awesome!

How are these markers? I only have copics and a bunch of pantone gray tones (collected from my college days) How are the promarkers in comparison?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

saiyanbura In reply to trunkims [2015-11-26 15:55:56 +0000 UTC]

Appreciate that!

And comparing them is very interesting because they handle completely differently!!!!

Promakers are much more 'hard' I guess (they also don't have a brush nib like the ciao), the color comes out much more solid on the first stroke.
They work well with layering, definitely, but it's nowhere near as nuanced as the copics.
On the other hand the promarkers are much brighter/solid and so it gets a much more 'there' feeling.
Because of that they are also very useable on watercolor paper (thicker) such as I used on the Beerus/Vegeta drawing. Because there're more color, it doesn't get soaked in as much and you can work with it much better to get super bright/vivid colors.

Blending works so-so, not nearly as good as compared to copics. Copics are more subtle. Much more like painting.

I do find that promarkers bleed more than copics.
And they also press much more through the paper than copics.

Overall I like both of them a lot and I will keep on using both, depending on situation/color/paper!
Haven't used them together yet, so curious how that will go. :3

I don't have pantone. How are those?
I'm also soooooooooo curious about the watercolor markers and/or the acrylic markers.
How perfect, to paint with markers.

Thank you very much for the detailed review! I want to try the prismacolor brush markers and see how those compare! I like the way the brush tip markers feel and how they blend.

As far as Pantone goes, probably the same as the promarkers, they don't blend well unless you have the next shade of the color. (Which I'm not sure how that would work with the limited color selection, the cool and warm grays blend nicely cuz I have so many lol) They don't have brush tips either, a broad tip then a medium and fine tip on each end. I don't think they bleed much.
