Description Well this is my entry into the Sci-fi Weapon design contest for PMGA.

Name: XEM-27
Nickname: Arc Caster
Classification: Experimental Heavy Energy Weapon
Power peak: 1 Million volts
Effective range: 400 Feet (tracer arch)
Manufacturer: Empire Arms Unlimited
No. of Shots Per Cell: 1

This is an experimental energy weapon that harnesses the power of lightning.

The process of firing the weapon would be first to load the Lightning Energy Cell (LEC) in the front of the weapon. [The Silver tube with handle and prongs. Bottom Right most object.]

After loading a Lightning Spike Bolt (LSB) in the side of weapon. [The bolt in the loading position is the Top Right most object.

Once fired, the LSB is launched from the weapon at the target. After exiting the weapon the LBS deploys its stabilizing fins. [As seen in the Middle-rightmost Object] When the LSB meets the target it sticks no matter the material.

The LBS releases positively charged ions after making contact with the target. When the lighting is released from the weapon the Negative Ions of the lighting are attracted to the positively charged ions of the LSB.

The effect of getting struck by the bolt differs from object to object.

This weapon is effective at frying electronics of vehicles if not completely destroying them. The effect on people is completely devastating. People have exploded when being hit by this weapon. While impractical at eliminating infantry it does have a lasting psychological effect on the infantry who witness the power of this weapon.

[CAUTION] This weapon can only fire once per LEC.
This weapon can also become very hot based on the climate of use.

[CAUTION] While the connection between the ions of the Weapon and the LSB has a 98% accuracy it is still not advised that the weapon is fired during a rainstorm.

Impressive. I've been finding more and more things that have the same basic idea as my stories. In mine, I use A Cloud Concentration Chip (a chip that concentrates the potential of clouds) to produce lightning bolts. The power can range from a taser-like effect, to blowing a hole through hundreds of feet of Steel. Anyway, this is a very well thought out weapon, and it receives the Snakeanium medal of Awesomeness (a reward only given once a decade).

And I thought lightning couldn't be fun.

Lightning is only fun one way.

i dunno it just looks silly to have a foregrip down there

Didn't use it so much as a foregrip as an angled undergrip.

Don't like it?

In all due respect, that would make a better melee weapon than a firearm. Lightning is too unpredictable, and seeing as the weapon is made at least ALMOST entirely of metal...Nothing short of the TF2 pyro could use that thing, while on a base made entirely of rubber.

With the weight I can imagine this weapon having and its extreme bulk, wouldn't it be more practical to make this a shoulder-mounted weapon? And it does sound like a drugged-out Tesla Cannon, using a similar system. However, due to the unpredicatble nature of the electric charge produced, even with your LSB system, would this not make this weapon extremely hard to use and therefore impractical? The chances of it striking your own units would be high.
Other than that, the idea is coming along nicely.

Never really thought of using it as a shoulder-mounted system.
Tesla's designs weren't really ever meant to be a cannon and frankly I don't see how it would work. The point of the LSB is to control the unpredictable nature, the way the system works together almost prevents from misfiring when used correctly.

Yeah, but at the same time, if something at a closer range than the projectile is already positively charged, there would still be a chance of it striking that object and not the one that you want it to.
Sounds like a good system, but I still think it's a touch unreliable and possibly dangerous to the user.

The LSB releases an amount of Positive ions that can not be replicated in an natural environment.

Besides having an awesome design, this gun has a sense of character and backstory. Great job!

Thanks, while it exactly isn't the design I had in mind. It is a definite concept I had in mind.

Not to rain on your parade... 1mil volt stunguns and batons are being sold right now. also, for those who don't know, a shotgun style weapon that fires electrically stunning shells has recently been considered for use by several police forces, and although the production model is wired, a wireless version working on the same principal as this gun has been created.

Welcome to the world, now be afraid.

What I should have stated was the Amperage since that is the variable that can kill. The gun runs around the same power as lightning putting it around 200,000 amps.

So it's like a lethal taser on steroids? It does sound like a weapon that would scare the hell out of enemy infantry.

Sakaryu In reply to ChrisLMGT1 [2010-11-23 03:25:33 +0000 UTC]

It does break people mental wise. The only problem is, the rate of fire is completely ineffective against troops. Sometimes if the people are close enough the electricity will arc from person to person. But when the guy next to you explodes it kinda does something negitive moral wise.
