Oh my. For some reason, that old routine of a Lady plucking the petals from a flower as she privately recites, "he loves me, he loves me not" in removing them one by one. In this case, i can readily picture the Lady Alder with her subdued sleuth restrained over a hard edge as she applies a single whack and asks 'good boy?" then after the requisite answer, another whack, where she asks, "bad boy?" thus the Professor of practical lesson learning keeping the exercise in applied rhetoric up all day with her highly attuned pupil.
