The drawing for #inktober2017

Our theme for this year is 【Boys x Flowers 】.
DAY 10 : BABYLON WILLOW / WEEPING WILLOW
The weeping willow has multiple meanings by country. In the East, for example, it has a positive connotation and represents eternal life, immortality, and spirit. In China, it is linked to life, longevity, but also to kindness and patience. The plant is also the symbol of beauty, femininity, and the joys of love.
In the West, however, it has a rather negative connotation associated with the particular conformation of the willow with branches and leaves reaching to the ground and oscillating depending on the intensity of the wind. Here the plant symbol recalls pain, sadness, weakness, and mourning.
In the medieval period, it was believed that, being related to female gods and witches, it had the power to empower evil.
The Jewish population saw the plant as a symbol of the arrival of adversity and misfortune; the ancient Greeks as a symbol of death and mourning.
In ancient Greece the Salice was considered to be the tree in connection with the afterlife.
According to Christianity, however, the weeping willow assumed the meaning of chastity and purity.

For this drawing we created a merman character.
