Description full-view

What do you see? I see two beautiful people killing each other. Based off of my characters Abdul and Joseph, they are my darlings I love them so much *w* But the hate each other... big suprise. Inspired by I used her technique of sharpen the coloring a bit ^_^- looked neat so I wanted to try it

Explanation:

The message is clear, They fight and hurt each other, but

look off as if it means nothing. Blood seeps from the blade

and will forever stain their clothes, signifying the stain of

bloodshed on their history. You can't tell at first

who's cutting who because blame, will forever be shifting,

in a way cutting the other is like cutting oneself and

together they cut one another. You know that if

they continue the outcome will be fatal yet there is nothing

you can do but watch as they cut each other until

death.

This drawing of yours has a very deep meaning, and their blank expression really resembles that the fight means nothing at all. This is quite dark but meaningful.

*sigh* saddendly its true....

too much of our past if you look into the hebrew past you can see so much pain and suffering, and somehow we're still here....its just amazingly hidden until you actually think about it *cries a little for her people*

thank you

That's stark. Very very dark. But not in a bad way, really.

Somebody mentioned the knives look to have the blades on backwards. I agree; the sharp side looks to be pointing away from them.

I'm not sure the rosy applecheeks work in this one. I know they're supposed to be heathy to add to the contrast of their killing eachother, but the bright spot looks over the top with this dark (in terms of lighting) setting.

Wait about the blades being backwards are you sure? *__*; I just picked up a kitch knifen and I know the cutting end is where the blade slopes down on the top, not the side that's straight. Can you double check for me? omg thanks for commenting and yea maybe the rosy cheeks don't work either. :/ hmm..

I guess it depends of the design whether it goes ==/ or ==\ (or ==>, but if you'll notice that the sharp side is wedgeshaped - that's where the sharpness comes from, and the effect you have on the outside of the blades looks a lot like that narrowing.

Ah here [link]
The wedgy bit is called the grind, 5, and you'll notice that there's a distinct change in the middle of the blade where it changes into the spine, 6. The way you've chosen to colour the blades looks to mimic that change, but it just looks the wrong way round to me.

There may be a bit of an optical illusion to it, but apparently I wasn't the only one to be fooled. I can't say that I look all that much a the knife when I chop veggies - I'm more concerned with my fingers.

i like the message behind it, the whole "cant we all just get along?" kinda thing. its good that you did the symbols small, it symbolises real life doesnt it, how everythign is fine until you notice the tiniest thing and then hatred can arise? yeah, anyway.

as for the critique that i'm so well known for... (lol), the shading on their skin is a tiny bit grey, it would look better a tad more saturated. also, i know that in the description it says that while they fight they look away suggesting that nothing is wrong, but despite that i feel like there should be more emotion in the eyes. a plain expression with lots of emotion in the eyes is better than trying to depict emotion through the shape of the mouth which is what you seem to have tried to do. also.... what is that brown line up on top of their heads in the middle? at first i thoguht a hair but its the wrong colour and isnt connected to either of them, so what? a mistake?

lastly, if you did some darker lighting effects and some deeper shading on the blood (the stains are ok, but the blood on the blades should be fresh and shiny), that would look quite good and it would focus the attention. that's all, any questions just ask.

sakura02 In reply to DCZed [2007-07-29 17:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Uhh I purposely lowered the saturation because I wanted it to convey a depressing sort of mood to the picture so infact the entire picture has a slightly grey hue to it except for the blood which I wanted to stand out. If you read the description you'll see also that I made their expression blank on purpose because I wanted to show that not only are they both are dying but that they look as if they don't care that they are hurting each other or are being hurt. If I gave expression to their eyes it would not work out with what I was trying to convey. I hate to mean but I'm not drawing a regular picture here. I'm using the colors to express a mood and I draw the character's poses and expression to convey a meaning. The point is I did those things on purpose to add to the picture and if you don't think it's effective well that's your opinion. I'm not just drawing two people cutting themselves I'm illustrating a symbolic picture.

You are right about the blood thing though I did try to make the blood on the blade brighter than one stained on their shirts and If you look carefully you'll notice they arnen't the same shade, maybe I could have lightened the blood on the blade a bit more. Oh and the brown strand is actually abdul's hair it probably doesn't look like cause it's a slightly diff brown. and that's my explaination.

"the entire picture has a slightly grey hue to it except for the blood which I wanted to stand out." well it doesnt stand out, you need to lower the saturation of the pic even more if thats what you were aiming for. also with the blood, i dont mean lighten it, blood is really bright red til it dries and then it goes brown, the coour of the blood on the blades is too light for blood anyway. i meant make it shiny so it looks like liquid, since thats what blood tends to be.

the 'hair' looks like a careless mistake.

and as for using the colours and expressions to convey a message, they aren't deep enough. frankly the picture does nothing for me, only the message behind it does, because the picture itself isnt very good. its a mess, both the drawing and the colouring. but whatever, its your art, you like it, other people like it. im just here to offer critique since you always ask for it - never seem to take any of it in though.
