Description Taken in Houma Louisiana. This is the Magnificent Victorian Mansion Ardoyne, style..Gothic Revival. This is all I was able to find on this Mansion.

Ardoyne Plantation House is set in a cluster of live oaks in a rural area approximately 5 miles northwest of the town of Houma. The house is approached via a circular driveway. It is constructed of cypress which, according to family tradition, was cut on the place and milled in St. Louis.
Despite the house's elaborate exterior articulation, the floor plan is comparatively commonplace. It consists of a central hall on both floors with large rooms each side. The house is 2 rooms deep, with additional roams in a 2-story rear wing and a 1-story kitchen at the rear.
The scale of the house is enormous. Most of the 21 rooms have 16 foot ceilings. In addition, the exterior massing is dominated by a corner tower which reaches a height of 75 feet. The only unusual aspect of the plan is the corner tower. On the first story it is an octagonal space. On the second story it is square, and on the attic level it takes the form of an extremely tall and angular set of transverse gables.
The visual character of the exterior of the house is something of an anachronism. The house was built c.1894, yet the exterior details (the elaborate bargeboards, the strongly vertical gables, the lances galleries, and the hood molded windows) are mainly characteristic of the early Victorian period (c.1845). Moreover, the composition of the massing, with its restless grouping of gables, its verticality, and its jarring asymmetry is mainly characteristic of the mid-Victorian period.

This house is featured in the horror movie "The Deadline".

This mansion is getting harder and harder to photograph as trees are starting to block the view..It is the most beautiful home I have ever seen. This photo does not do it justice.I wish I could have captured all of it at once.

It is said that a woman dressed in White walks around the property and vanishes..

Beautiful house, painter's nightmare. I especially like the balustrade. Yes, the architectural analysis looks correct, this house was influenced by the writings of Alexander Downing, and detailed that way, but it's in the Queen Anne Victorian period circa 1890. Very nice.

Does the 67 yr old retired librarian live there alone do you think ?

Ooh, I would really love to see this place in real life, I bet it's spectacular

Ever since I was a young girl, I have been facinated by this Mansion. It is privately owner by Margaret Shaffer, the great great granddaughter of the original owner John Shaffer. This house has always been in the possession of the Shaffer family. The current owner is a 67 year old retired librarian.Unfortunately the house is not available for touring.I wish one day it would be..I would really love to see the inside!

Oh what a shame...it's such a lovely place that a person would want to tour through. I have seen where some owners of a historic house will let their place be toured through at set hours and only on certain days.

If you ever get the opportunity to see the inside of it, I hope you take lots of pics and share them here.
