He had been prepared. He had trained for this. It was his duty as an Elite Guard to keep his empire safe. Aganemon, Maevin, Phoenix, Ferox…oh god what had he done? He felt it, its sharp claws grace over his pelt. The sting, and the pain, but it all faded away so quickly. He was too focused on keeping the large predator at bay. He had never seen anything as big as it. A senior for sure, not a stranger to surviving out in the cold. They had lured it from its cave with a fresh rabbit.
Now it was cornered, surrounded by a cliff and by 5 trained gladiators. But all of them underestimate the powerful beast as it ranked through them like they were nothing. It clipped Maevin by the arm. He could see that Agamemnon’s chest was bleeding with deep lacerations, and Phoenix was struggling to keep balance with her shoulder injured. Heitiare had a plan, but it was dangerous. Too dangerous to pull off but this was the only chance.
The Dark Liguar looked at everyone. Time was of the essence. “Keep your distance! But keep it occupied. Keep it’s line of sight, but don’t let it get too close. This end now”, he said as the other got back into formation, hissing and snarling, keeping the large bear's attention. “Give me a lift”, he said over to Ferox as he picked up a large sharped branch, who quickly positioned herself to give Heitiare a lift as he jumped off her back, his claws and jaws outstretched.

It was dark, so dark. Yet there was light. His throat stung, and a gush of lead ran down his throat. Suddenly he opened his eyes, his vision blurry. He could barely stand, he could barely breathe. His chest was being crushed. There was warmth, but also a twinge of cold. He could hear voices calling to him. There was a light, and… Finally he could breathe as his neck was pulled on by several powerful jaws. Heitiare was dragged from under the now fallen bears corpse. The others were saying something but they were all muffled. He blinked, his eyes stinging and his vision a deep red, just like the snow around him. He could smell blood, overwhelming his smell and his other senses. More yelling as he saw a shadow loom over the horizon. The shadow had split. He could see a familiar black coat “Mom…?”
“Hush! Everything will be alright. Try not to move”, said the voice back to him. He felt calm when he heard it. He felt like a cub again. Fallen down and scraped his paw on some stone, consoled by its mother with the same warm words. The darkness overtook him again, as he laid his head down into the cold.

Word has spread of the Group’s return. While such a large kill should be celebrated, panic filled the air around the camp. The Healers were on standby as they rushed to aid the injured cats. Aga, Maevin, and Phoenix were injured in the fight. Ferox made it out without a scratch with a large sigh of relief from Tolmi and Griffon. But where was Heitiare? He was there, in the back of the Healers den. Surrounded by his family. He was alive, the rise and fall of his flank visible in the dark cave. What had happened?
The bear had happened. The story goes as told. Heitiare had managed to latch himself onto the bear, it’s pelt too thick to penetrate by mere claws and jaws. The bear reared upon its hind legs to swat away the pesky nat on its throat. The beast claws ripping down heitire’s back, dying it crimson. But Heitiare did not let go. Then silence, as the large creature toppled and then fell, a branch sticking from its throat like a dagger. Everyone had celebrated as the beast fell, but it was short lived as Heitiare had been pinned under its heavy corpse. Phoenix ran back to camp to get help as we desperately tried to get him from under the beast. We manage to claw him free by gutting the bear and making it lighter. That is when everyone else showed up.
A soft voice ran through the dark as Odgerel walked up to the family, issuing them out as the other healers; Chamomile and Carmentis attended to the body of Heitiare. The mere sight of their fathers had rattled the Heibelle cubs, but nothing else would give them more of a shock then the words that were spoken next.
"He is alive, but very weak. He might not make it through the night. I am surprised that he survived the initial attack at all. I will leave you alone with him now. I'm so sorry…”
