Well,he was one of the Antediluvian prophets and most of them were infamous for having problems with sound mind
According to the story, he called himself a Messiah, wanted to defeat the God and replace Him, which sounds really a bit crazy

I think all the Antidiluvians who possess great mysteries (Ashur, Saulot and Malkav) are insane in some way. My views on them are not always according to the canon. We (me and my friend ~Myar )tend to change some of the canon stories in attempt to give them "the human touch". I mean to make them more real not just mythological creatures.

I know that it is nearly (if not) impossible to make them at least a bit humane in Final nights or Gehenna storyline, since there they are already thousands years old, and well, they are meant to be "bad guys" ( still I don´t find them completely evil, but twisted in some way beyond our mortal understanding
Obviously even I don´t view them exactly as written in Vtm books, since the information about such creatures is quite confusing and too black-and-white. I accept expecially those canon stories, where behaved/acted contra the usual expectation
