"The Dying Detective"? Or just a sort of ill Sherlock? Your illustrations of Holmes are some of my favourites that I've ever seen.

Poor Holmes! Where is Dr. Watson? Sherlock needs his friend to worry over him a bit.....

So much detail in such a small space, and yet it's not too busy at all. And I love how he keeps the revolver handy.

little known fact.
Sherlock Holmes used to take cocaine to stimulate his brain because he would have been driven mad by all of his brain activity.
Man's greatest weapon, can also be his greatest threat.

Little known fact- Holmes never existed, and it was written as such that he would inject cocaine when he was bored?

TheObsessor In reply to Sun-Chips [2010-02-02 19:47:39 +0000 UTC]
yeah, his mind constantly craved intellectual stimulation, and when he couldn't find something to combat that, he turned to tobacco, or to cocaine.

Post-Reichenbach, I'm assuming? It makes me sad that he's sleeping with a gun, but overall the piece seems very lighthearted. As always, I'm digging it.

I spy, with my little eye:
The Hound of the Baskervilles, Reichenbach Falls, and Irene Adler (aka: The Woman).
Did I miss anything?

Ouchie. This makes me think of the Moriarty story arc...
and the upcoming movie as well, since they're talking about it having more action than previous films.
That could be good, or bad. oO
On that dubious note, Robert Downie Junior seems to be a good actor, but not who I would've chosen to play Holmes...

yes, me too, dunno if Rob downey was the good choice to play Holmes...
More action? hugggr, that's sound bad to mee.. but maybe i'm wrong!

I know, I always pictured holmes as more suave and handsome looking. >:[

Did you read the books?
...'cos he's really not much of either. Kind of gross and pale and shadowy, actually. Just very charismatic.

Basil Rathbone was actually a really inaccurate representation, though; Sherlock was gross and pasty and had a big nose and didn't shower. ): He was creepy and spidery-looking, like.. kind of like the Bowler Hat Guy from Meet the Robinsons.

I don't know, I felt like he was almost born to play that role. I don't think Basil was that cute, and I think he really captured Holmes' charisma. I mean, I know he wasn't a beauty, but I never thought of him as completely disgusting looking. And I've seriously read almost all of the stories.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle said himself that all the illustrations for his works were fairly inaccurate; and if you take into account Holmes' lifestyle, the area he lived in and the PERIOD he lived in, you know, when baths were for rich people only, he was probably pretty filthy anyway, and mingled with a somewhat skeletal and hawk-like appearance - more quotes from Doyle -, he probably looked pretty darn creepy.
He's charismatic, charming and intelligent, but his appearance leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

You know I'm not criticizing your drawing right? I was talking about the movie, not your drawing. I think I got my conversations mixed up.

This isn't my drawing, lol.
And I suppose I'm pushing my point a bit too far, but Downey, Jr. actually looked the most accurate. He's far shorter than Holmes, but I'll forgive that for the other bits he did so well. He was never handsome.

xoPumpkinLovexo In reply to Sun-Chips [2010-03-07 01:31:39 +0000 UTC]
I know he wasn't, and I understand. I do think Downey did an awesome job, don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved him as Holmes, but it just wasn't what I imagined. That's all.

oh, nevermind. I just pictured him being more...austere than Robert Downey Jr. was. Although I loved how he played Sherlock, it wasn't what I pictured. I think of him looking more like the artist's drawing in this picture.
