Description Bought the box sets for Rescue Ranger and watched the show again for the first time since childhood, and ooooh it is fantastic! And it made me love Gadget. She is amazing. I wish that she had the same resources that humans do because she does the most amazing stuff with SCRAP! She built a spaceship with life support that made it into space, I mean, damn!

Last time I re-watched this show, I drew a bunch of Rescue Rangers/Sly Cooper crossover doodles. My DA now has an entire sub-gallery dedicated to it .

Isn't it great when your childhood favorites actually hold up?

Pretty much all the Disney Afternoon shows hold up well. Talespin is the most timeless (mainly because of the 30s setting and island/calypso soundtrack), but Rescue Rangers is a close second. Watching it as an adult, I liked how most of the character relationships were communicated by SHOWING how the characters interacted rather than spelling it out (example: the surrogate father/daughter thing that Monty and Gadget had going on).

Upon marathoning the show, I noticed that Gadget was written as being kind of crazy in the early episodes and was toned down later on. She was still cool; but I think it would have been neat if she had stayed nuts throughout the series. LOL

Yes, it is quite amazing! And it also makes it all the more heartbreaking when they decide to "modernize it" and bring it into the present. Disney is making a Rescue Rangers movie that is going to be in the same vein as the Smurfs and Alvin the Chipmunks movies... *crying forever*

When it came to Gadget and her eccentricities, I took it to be character development that she got better at social interaction as she went along. When the story starts (in the pilot movie) she really only ever interacted with her father and sometimes Monty when he visited when she was younger. And after her father passed away she spent all of that time alone. Making friends and becoming a ranger gave her a purpose outside of building things to distract herself. She's still 'quirky' but she's no longer.... socially inept, by the end of it.

I heard about the Rescue Rangers movie right after I posted that comment. It's ironic. I used to lament the fact that great franchises like Sly Cooper and Rescue Rangers languished in obscurity while lesser series lived on. I thought "I can't believe no one has thought to do something with these great series! There's so much potential!". I guess that old saying "Be careful what you wish for" fits here.

I don’t have much hope for the Sly Cooper movie (because all signs seem to point to it sucking hardcore). But I’ll hold off judgement on the Rescue Rangers movie until I see the redesigns and hear some news about the voice cast. If Disney respects the original property enough to get the original voice actors instead of casting some flavor-of-the-month celebrity, than I’ll be willing to lower the nostalgia goggles and at least give it a fair shot.
…..granted, bringing in the cartoon Vas didn’t save the Transformers movie from being terribly stupid. But at least it’ll be a good sign.

I always assumed that, too. It makes sense that she’d get better at social interaction by living with a bunch of dudes and doing a job that forces her to interact with new creatures all the time (and I’m sure Monty helped by teaching her how to be more sociable).

I have zero hope for the Rescue Rangers movie because Disney is specifically emulating The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunk Movies. Meaning we can expect pop-culture references up the wazoo, pointless human characters, ineffective villains and INFURIATING renditions of the characters. If they were just making a Rescue Rangers movie I'd be more okay with it, but since they're specifically citing....THOSE THINGS I feel broken. (I have seen those movies, btw. I have a baby sister who luuuvs them and watches them on loop and every time she does it feels like my brain is leaking out of my ears.)

In the case of Transformers, its suckage can be laid at the feet of Michael Bay and the main writer Arin Kruger. Kruger ruins everything he touches - he's an untalented hack. I have a friend who's a huge Transformer fan and she can't stand those movies. Although she does get a kick out of them turning Optimus Prime into a murderous psychopath. While still saying he's the hero. She calls him "Murder Prime" XD

Yes indeedee.

"Nånting händer, det är nåt skumt på gång, men våra, vänner, dom vaktar dagen lång! för dom finns I trakten häromkring, så ropa eller ring! här kommer Piff och Puff, är på språng, här kommer Piff och Puff, varje gang nu! dom är världens bästa räddningspatrull"~ something something xD

You should sit down and watch it again! It's truly an amazing show! In fact, its better than I remembered it being

Hehe, for me the theme song is "Sometimes some crimes go slipping through the cracks, but these two gumshoes are picking up the slack! There's no case too big, no case too small! When you need help just call Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dale! Rescue Rangers! Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dale! When there's danger, Oh no, it never fails, once they're involved somehow whatever's wrong gets solved Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dal! Etc etc" XD

I wouldn't bet against it. someone on Sucker punch was probably watching Rescue rangers while coming up with new characters for Sly 3.
