Description While jellyfish have hardly changed over the past 300 million years, the same cannot be said about the future. After a gamma ray burst 298 million years in the future, jellyfish populations have exploded in the absence of predators.

On the left, a photosynthetic jellyfish hovers in the oxygen-starved water column, already capable of producing and storing enough oxygen as a byproduct of their symbiotic algae.

On the right, a neotonous species of jellyfish flaps its oar-like fins, blindly hunting for morsels of food in the water column. It is really a stack of individual jellyfish, which never detach after their larval stage.

The seabed is plastered with dark cyanobacteria, choking out any benthic organisms.
