Description A cave system beneath the Appalachians for a new speculative biology project. They started to form during the Silurian, and were sealed off from the rest of the world at the beginning of the Carboniferous. They get oxygen through highly bioluminescent fungi that contain algae, producing just enough oxygen for the cave's inhabitants. The cave still contains many animals that can see, though not well. This lets them see in the dim light of the fungi, and some use it to locate them to eat. The caves are 6 km long at their widest, supporting a diverse range of creatures for a cave. The fungus trees are larger than most not to spread spores, but to make lots of oxygen. The ecosystem is based off of bacteria that get nutrients from the surrounding rock.
