Just a quick drawing of Pete Wentz as a vampire in the video for 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me'. Took me about three and a half hours using 3B and 5B pencils. I'm most proud of the eyes, and apologies for the crappy tone on his hood - I need practise with fabric. Comments are love!! <3Related content

well, i aint no pete wentz fan and i could care less about him, but thats not the case here. its about ur drawing, techniques and all
Well, if you where trying to draw very realistically on the hood, well, i see u did a bit too much on cross-hatching and all. kind of tilt dat pencil a bit and do some shading. well, im not good at fabric either for that i am lazy with clothes, but just sum shading will do. also, remember, if u want to practice more on shading, remember the way to do a practice is to just grab urself a sheet a paper, start shading in dark and start getting very light form left to right (or right to left, or up to down or down to up, whatever u prefer).
and of course, i dont know a thing about names of pencils, $h, 2b, whateve the hell the pencil is. But as i said from the thing about practicing shading, i suggest that u add some mroe depth into the dude. on sum places, such as the dark and light shadow of his nose, u totally seperated the shadow. try to give it more value. also, ur shading seems a bit rough. smoothen it out girl! maybe the pic was like dat (since i hav no reference photo, i cant give my full critic potentials here with the "perfectionist" crap i say), but his nose seems crooked, but then again, i cant tell witout a reference. i even hav crooked problems on some of my drawings, but sumtimes it happens dat way (yeesh lol).

Well, mroe likely it took me ages to look at ur drawing and think of how to write it.... And charcoal? Really? I use charcoal and plain pencil at the same time lol

The eyes are really nice, I completely agree with you. But crikey, don't use your fingers for smudging (as suggested). The oils get left on the paper and instead of smooth you get smudgy and uneven...and...*sighs* I used to use my finger.
Use a blending stump (also known as a tortillion), or if you don't want to spend the cash (they're cheap, really, they're made out of tightly wound paper) then you can use a papertowel/TP/etc...just blend the graphite in little circles until you get the desired effect.

I actually did not start smudgin with my fingers until liek... this year? i hav had problems wit oily fingers before and smeared wit tissure and q-tips., but i do it wit my fingers now without makin it very oily. what i do first is wash my hands almost everytime im about to draw, and also, when i smudged with my finger, I dont smudge roughly. if i feel that my finger is too oily, i hav to wash them again (prolly might be a pain int he ass, butonce u kind of learned to use ur fingers witout makin a lot of oil marks and not washing ur hands so much, it becomes easy...but i hav to wash since im a very oily girl
i also roll up paper into a pointy stick to smudge small thin areas like eyelids and all.

Yeah, I know it was bad to use my finger... but I was looking after a very empty shop and was bored so whipped out my pencils... haha. Had no cotton wool. Thought I'd fill you in... okay i'll stop rabbiting now.

Ooh he's really recognisable... He's such an idiot though (no offence to those who like him, I just think he takes too much credit for what the whole band do)
Umm for fabric I sometimes smudge the shading a bit with my finger, it makes it look softer...
