I always thought as a kid that Nurse Joy would kinda stalk you, picking up all the fainted Pokemon and swearing revenge against the trainers who just leave them like that. xD

This is one of the reasons why I don't like to think hard for games like Pokemon. Because if I think about what happens to those cute little Pokemon in the wild I beat just for the EXP, I'll feel like a murderer.

due to the inability to catch fainted pokemon combined with the absence of defeated pokemon later in the game, I've concluded that owner's pokemon faint... wild pokemon die.
pokemon is a lot more morbid than they let on XD

I perfectly asked myself the same question sometimes. I decided to let the game based logical mistakes be game based logical mistakes and start to believe in other ways if the world of pokΓ©mon would be a real world.
As far as it's a part of my fanfictions, pokΓ©mon can be hurt seriously in fights and nobody who cares about'em would fight in random just to succeed over wild pokΓ©mon.
