Redo for 015. Archaeology of the Layton 100 Themes.I was just thinking that we never see any stuff of Janice doing any archaeology, even though she was one of Layton's students before becoming an opera singer. So I kind of wanted to do something like that, but didn't have a lot of ideas. So here's just a dumb picture of Janice asking Layton what he thinks of a fossil she's found.
THE FOSSIL IS A REFERENCE TO ANOTHER VIDEO GAME THAT IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THAT SERIES SHOULD BE A MASSIVELY OBVIOUS REFERENCE.
Maybe it's actually a project made by one of the art students, that had been put into the dig-site for a laugh.

Hahahaha aww, it's always nice to see someone doing some archaeology in this series. There's really a lot less of it than you'd expect from a series whose main character is an archaeologist XD
Layton's frowning face isn't because he's thinking about what kind of fossil it is, but rather because he's trying to work out how he's going to take it to the appropriate place and not have it instantly pick-pocketed, because that's a bit creepy. 8D

Sadly, that seems to be the running theme with a lot of series where the main character is an archaeologist. Or at least, if they are doing it they're spending more time fighting off booby traps than quietly digging up stuff. xD But Layton is a particularly bad offender for never doing any archaeology. I miiiiight headcanon that to being partially because he's not actually as super-passionate about it as everyone believes and after all the shit he's gone through just wants a quiet life of teaching.
Yes! If you leave fossils in your pockets for too long you can be certain that one of your animal neighbours is going to come along and go "So I hear you have a fossil. Want to swap it for this shitty shirt?" And then you HAVE to say yes because you're a nice person and you don't want to offend your animals. D:

I honestly don't think most of these writers know what archaeology actually IS XD Which reminds me, I did send you this, right? www.cracked.com/article_18988_... (Relevant. XD) Hahaha, you know, when you think about it, it's mostly other characters who talk about what a great archaeologist Layton is--he doesn't really say a lot about his job, does he? So maybe it's true, maybe he's no more passionate about archaeology than about anything else, he's just the kind of person who puts a lot of dedication into everything he does, and teaching archaeology was a just a sensible career to pursue.

No, I haven't seen that list before, but I like who got chosen for the top three. 
Well, that's pretty much how I see it. In Miracle Mask we even see that he definitely didn't like archaeology and regardless of what skill he might have had in it the main reason he took it up was because he felt responsible for living out the dream that Randall couldn't. It is kind of depressing, but most of what we see Layton do is basically him being step up and strung along by other people. I feel if left to his own means he'd probably just get on with his teaching job and not bother anyone.
That is basically it! Heaven forbid that the residents hate the mayor of Misthallery! ...Oh yeah, I threw Clark out of his job.

He probably didn't mind archaeology too much at the start, but Randall never shutting up about it would have made him tired of hearing about it--like anything. He might have enjoyed it a little bit more when he was just studying it at his own pace and not having to listen to someone go on about it constantly. But you're right; if people left him alone Layton would just go along happily doing his work to the best of his ability. Instead everyone drags him into their messes and expects him to solve it for them.
HAHAHA did you really name your town that? Because that would be hilarious XD Clark probably wouldn't mind you taking his job, anyway, he never asked to be mayor; now he can go back to killing fish and... doing whatever the hell else he did with his time before he was made mayor. Maybe he did some actual archaeology?? 8U

I think you could take it either way. We never really see how he feels about archaeology pre-Randall (though it may be addressed in PL6), so its pretty fair to say either that he had no interest in it or that he had something of a casual interest. He was in an archaeology class, after all, so I can only assume that he might well have been. And yes, everyone expects Layton to solve their problems and he's too nice to tell them to go away. XD
Sadly, no. Misthallery wouldn't fit on, so I had to name my town Misthall instead. Which I like as well, because it sounds like some lame WoW location or something. XD Hmmmm, maybe before becoming mayor Clark spent all his time being scared of pigeons.
