Description
So recently I read the volume of Sonic Archives that deals with the first half of the Sonic Adventure adaptation.

I'd been really excited for it, because I'd never had a chance to read it before and everyone always says that the Archie SA adaptation was awful; I was looking forward to seeing how awful it was for myself. But I've got to admit that I was a little let down in that, while it was very bad, it was just the sort of bad you usually get from classic Archie Sonic anyway. I'd been hoping for something supremely bad in epic portions. XD But then again, I've only read the first half, so maybe I should wait until after the full thing before making a proper judgement. Also, I've been aware of things like the dumb plot point of having Station Square as a city hidden under a mountain for years, so perhaps if that had been something I wasn't expecting then the surprise factor would have knocked up the awful rating by a lot.

Out of what I've read so far my least favourite parts are easily the Knuckles strips, as it was very clear that Ken Penders had no interest in doing an SA adaptation and just wanted to tell a story about his OCs. But that's hardly a change from usual. A close second in terms of "worst so far" has to be the Gamma & Amy strip, which completely destroyed any emotional value that scene had in the game. In the comic version Amy wasn't even given the chance to speak and we just get an obnoxious narrator describing what Gamma is going through. This misses how that scene worked in the game by a mile. In the game it was important that we got to hear Amy defending herself and her bird friend, while we could feel what Gamma was going through without needing to be told directly, because we'd spent Gamma's story learning how the character reacts to different situations. I get that a comic is always going to be more static than a video game is, but there are better ways to portray emotion than this. And before anyone says it, I'm also aware that they hadn't played Sonic Adventure when writing this arc and were relying on SPAZ's Japanese translations, but all the same they knew enough about the game to know there was a scene where Amy pleads with Gamma for the sake of her friend and herself, so even without knowing exactly what she was saying they should have had the sense to let her say something.

...All of that has almost nothing to do with this doodle. Almost.

At some point in this issue of the Archives there's a scene where Sally is wearing a coat. And I just happened to think that it was really cute, so I wanted to try drawing it. That's the only connection. XD

And I know this isn't very good, but it's literally just a quick doodle I decided to colour.

(I feel I should end this by making it clear that I don't dislike Archie Sonic. On the contrary, I love it very much. It's just that I also love reading how terrible the older stories in the comic are.)
