Description When I started making my new scabbard I figured I might as well take pictures for a tutorial while I was at it.
Most instructions you can find online are for wooden scabbards, but that just takes too much time to do (for me anyway ), even though they last longer.

I hope someone finds this useful!

I have a letter opener in the shape of a sword. The blade is 7 inches long, and it's incredibly sharp. I keep it in my purse, but it kept tearing through the fabric, so I tried to find a tutorial on how to make a mini scabbard for it. As you mentioned, most tutorials are for wood scabbards, and that would do me no good. Yours, however, was very easy to scale down and worked as well as I could have hoped. Thank you very much for all of the time and effort you put into this incredibly useful and helpful tutorial!

Oooo... Been worrying about how to go about this. I do like this tut. Wondering though, can one go about painting leather? I know you can dye it but paint is a whole new ball game.

I don't really know about painting leather.. It is possible, but I've only read about carving lines into leather and then painting where it's been carved. You could probably find something about it if you google it!
