Description

Had some Retro F1 inspiration for this drawing. Didn't really came out that great. Couldn't get the shading on the flank right.

I used the usual Graphite and Coloured pencilcs on A4 sized 120 g/m^2 paper

Jody Scheckter was a Formula one racing driver from South African origin. He quickly promoted himself through the Formula one, experiencing the up-thrust of McLaren, the six-wheeled Tyrrell and the eccentric yet spectacular Walter Wolf team.

For 1979 he signed with Ferrari. Although having no interest at all in the Italian, sometimes dirty, politics, he exceeded every expectation to win the driver’s championship title straight-away in 1979 with victories in Belgium, Monaco and a one-two in Italy with friend and rival Gilles Villeneuve. He and Gilles gave Ferrari the constructor’s championship title that year with sensible team-work.

The Ferrari 312T4 of was, although winning both titles in 1979, very outdated. Being introduced in 1975 as an update of the 312B and winning 27 races, three driver’s titles and four constructor’s titles, it was already four years old in 1979. It was a dinosaur, too simple and way to heavy with its enormously blunt flat-12 engine. Even with the addition of ground-effect in 1979.

1980 went into the history as the worst title defend ever of a champion. Jody Scheckter scored a measly 2 points with the awful 312T5 and left the team at the end of the season. It wasn’t his fault though. The 312T5 was so bad it could barely qualify itself.

Jody Scheckter, having proven himself in racing more than enough, has settled down and is currently living the life of an organic farmer. Jody’s 1979 driver’s title was the last one for Ferrari until Michael Schumacher came along 21 years later.

So do I. I love the nostalgia of the 60ies, 70ies and 80ies years of autosport.

That's a great drawing and Jody was probably the only driver who could win races with that mastodon.

Thank you. And yeah. Ferrari really outperformed themselves that year considering their 4 year old car.

You're very welcome. Yeah! But at least they didn't have to come up with a new car each year.
